TTC - Best time for DTD?

Hi ladies!!

I am currently TTC my second baby - had my first at only 23 as a COMPLETE surprise, it was actually a cryptic pregnancy and I only found out I was pregnant at 7 months. I was even on the pill! Now we're trying for our second - my first is 3 and a half so I'm keen to get pregnant soon for a 4 year age gap - now is really my first time ever TTC.

Have been tracking ovulation with Clearblue digitals and got my first smiley today (cycle day 17). Also had ovulation cramps and lots of EWCM the last few days so knew it was time. We DTD 4 days ago, 3 days ago and last night. So hopefully my timing is ok. Does anyone know what the smiley face is telling me in terms of best times to DTD? Should I try DTD tonight/ tomorrow as well or should I be ok if there are some swimmers waiting from the past couple of times?

Thank you in advance! If anyone wants to do the TWW together I'm here! xx

Hello! Sorry can't offer much advice on the clear blue digital ovulation tests but I'd say you should try again tonight to increase your chances!

This has been our first month TTC our first and I've promised myself I won't get obsessed so I avoided getting the ovulation strips. I used the Period tracker app to check when I would be ovulating but I really doubt I'm getting a BFP this month as I'm due on next week and can totally feel it.

I think I'm gonna need to get the strips for next month!

Regularly throughout the cycle if you can, however I have kids and I know that can be a massive challenge. I’m pregnant now with my third, we used to try as much as possible from 5 days pre ovulation until day after ovulation. Took 19months after no issues getting pregnant previously.

@Ihatewashingdishes I recommend tracking ovulation. The apps very much guess. My ovulation varied over a few days every cycle

Congratulations on your pregnancy, you must feel so relieved after trying for a while.

Thanks for the advice that's good to know, I'm going to order some ovulation tests for next month. After reading on here I think it's the best way, even if I will be obsessed! 🤞🏻

Thanks for your responses! Best of luck @Ihatewashingdishes and congratulations on your 3rd pregnancy @Mummyme87.

I did the same as you the past 2 cycles, didn't use any tracking apart from Flo app but worried I could be off with dates so got the ovulation tests only this month, it's definitely helpful to know the dates for sure - Flo was wrong by about 3 days for me. You're only testing with the strips for a week ish out of the month anyway and then you're onto the TWW so you don't have to get too obsessive. I'd say just test once a day (that's what I've been doing) and now I have seen a smiley test, I won't test again until next month.

I've seen bad reviews on the cheaper strips so hadn't thought about those and went for Clearblue straight away. Which do you think you'll go for?

Baby dust to you! xx@Ihatewashingdishes

I used cleablue it took the guess work out of working out when ovulation would occur.

I DTD on static smiley day and the day after.

Ihatewashingdishes · 21/06/2023 15:54

Thanks for the info, so once you get the smiley face does that mean it's your ovulation day? I'm going to get the digital clear blue ones, I think I'd struggle with the other ones tbh!

Sending all the baby dust your way too.. please keep me updated! Xx @Daisy1996

BritishDesiGirl · 21/06/2023 16:21

@Ihatewashingdishes ironically, l DTD with hubby 3 times before ovulation date and currently 6 months pregnant with DC2. Sperm definitely does live for up to 5 days!! Lol

Sending you lots of love and positivity xx

Oooh that’s so good to know! I don’t know if my partner will be in the mood tonight or tomorrow as he’s home late from work. So it might have to just be last night and the two other times for this cycle. Fingers crossed. Huge congratulations on your successful pregnancy!! How many days post ovulation did you find out?xx
