Morning after pill - Ovulation effectiveness

Hi - Apologies if this is not the right place and been asked before......

I (stupidly, I know) had unprotected sex on Friday evening/ Sat Morning 16/6. I took the MAP ellaOne on Sunday Lunchtime 18/6 about. Having now done a little more research it says that if taken during ovulation it will no longer be effective. I appreciate that I should have probably already known this.

I loosely take my periods, in no great detail but they tend to be pretty regular 4 weeks. My last period started 03/6 which would make Friday/Sat CD 13/14 I think?

Obviously its just a wait and see now but slightly more concerned than I was and looking to see if I can get the coil fitted but have reacted badly previously.

I guess my question is given the dates are the chances of being pregnant still pretty slim? Of course either way not the end of the world but its going to be playing slightly on my mind for the next few weeks

The ellaOne works by delaying ovulation, so if you've already ovulated, it won't do anything. It does sound like you might be right on the edge of it not being effective unfortunately as ovulation typically takes place around CD14 on a regular 28 day cycle. Depending on what you'd want to do if you were pregnant, I'd be taking a pregnancy test in about two weeks so you know as early as possible and have the most options.

Thank you, thats what I was thinking too - I will certainly be testing as soon as possible for peace of mind either way!

I guess the chances of getting pregnant at worse will be in line with general successful conception which I have seen is 20-25%ish?

Whichever way it falls it will be okay

I think chances are like 40% the day before ovulation and then 20% the day of ovulation, yes. Annoyingly your ovulation day can change cycle to cycle even if you are regular so without knowing what day you actually ovulated, the chances are all over the place.

I'll keep my fingers crossed you get the outcome you want though!

Thanks, I have found I have been really sad and almost regretting it since taking the pill which may just be linked to the surge in hormones etc.

I took the morning after pill less than 12 hours after unprotected sex with DH. Our daughter will be 10 this year...

Ah that's amazing.

I think it has worked as I have had quite a bit of spotting over the last few hours and felt a bit rubbish tbh! What will be will be, I have certainly learned a lesson or two and got some clarity.
