IVF with low AMH

Ilovewheelychairs · 16/06/2023 12:30

Hi all,

We've just been accepted by a fertility clinic in Ireland for IVF. My husbands sperm count is all good, but sadly my AMH is low (3.21) and they only found 3 follicles in my ovaries. We still want to try because we've been TTC our much wanted baby for almost 6 years now and this feels like our final chance. But has anyone out there got experience of IVF with such low numbers? Am so trying not to get my hopes up but it feels like our only option and when you're putting everything into the process mentally, physically and financially, it's so hard!

Anybody? Or am I just fooling myself?

@Ilovewheelychairs my amh was 2.1. I did duo stim last year (google it) which was perfect for me. I got three eggs through genetic testing and I'm currently 10+2. Don't lose hope xx

Harryateacroissant · 17/06/2023 11:40

Definitely possible. Low amh means you harvest less eggs at each cycle so you may need to do a few cycles to get the same number as someone with a higher amh.

I’ve a friend in similar position - harvested 2/3 eggs each cycle, which has led to 0-1 embryos per cycle - so needs more cycles than others but still getting the embryos. Hasn’t yet had any transferred but will do soon.

Age also an important factor - low amh at 30 v different to low amh at 40 as the proportion of eggs which are genetically normal declines with age.

If you move this to the infertility board you will likely get more responses

Good luck!

Hi, thanks so much both. Unfortunately we can only afford one cycle, so it's this or nothing 😭 I have everything tightly crossed I respond well to the medication. I'll be 39 in a couple of weeks- we've spent 6 years TTC and have been denied testing and treatment in the UK multiple times due to my BMI. I so wish I was writing this 6 years ago when we first started trying and I was younger, but there's been no way anyone would help sadly. Am so scared we've lost our chance because I'm now too old and with too few eggs.

I am 34 with an AMH of 1.7 but AFC of 11. My clinic are putting me on very low dose testosterone before stims. Perhaps worth asking about? I am told it encourages the ovaries to respond better. I haven’t started yet so can’t actually report results sorry.

CR7 · 17/06/2023 12:19

@Hopingforno2in2023 I'm 42 xx bmi is normal but age was definitely against me and I am pregnant xx

Hi,
At 29 I got told I have no eggs at all my AMH was of a 70 year old!! I was a fit and healthy women, and my husbands were low even tho he had two children who were 10/12 at the time!! So he couldn’t believe it. They said don’t even try IVF you won’t have any eggs plus you will have to pay, paying for us wouldn’t of been a problem only the fact they said I had no eggs. Go and get some from my twin or go to Cyprus and get an egg donor!! I couldn’t believe it.I . Iove to go the gym but I also love to go out, any way that was 6 years ago!!! 3 weeks after they told me all that I got pregnant!!! I honestly believe I never thought about it thought it was going to be a struggle and now I have my daughter!!!! Never give up!!! But sometime they say get a dog and try as much as you can and forget about it!!! What will be will be, but 3 weeks later!!! One nurse said always believe in science ❤️❤️

Hi @Ilovewheelychairs @Hopingforno2in2023 how did ye get on with ivf? I'm in similar situation starting IVF here in Ireland also but with a low AMH of 3! Xx

Ilovewheelychairs · 11/02/2024 12:04

Hi,

We got 3 eggs first cycle, all fertilised but only one made it to day 5. We had that transferred in October which sadly didn't take. We've borrowed another £12k from my parents and are currently out here for round 2. Follicles very slow growing as last time. Hoping for one more embryo to transfer for our final chance. Best of luck with it all- AFC seems to matter more than AMH. My AFC is only 3- I had 5 follicles last time but two were empty x

Oh I'm so sorry to hear your 1st round didn't take @Ilovewheelychairs it's expensive road to go down we have taken out a loan for our cycle I just hope it works out! It will be worth it having a loan hanging over our heads for 4 years then! Praying your second cycle will bless you with a baby! Keep us updated! I start injections next week was worried about my low AMH xx

Akan · 20/05/2024 16:22

Hi @Ilovewheelychairs @Cloclo93
How you are getting on? I have started Stim today with low AMH of 2.6 pmol. They could 4-5 follicles on baseline scan.

Cloclo93 · 20/05/2024 16:58

Hi @Akan I managed to get 4 mature eggs on that cycle unfortunately all failed to fertilized!
I'm currently in my second ivf cycle just got my date for EC for this Thursday 🙏 this time we are doing icsi, we are also doing dual trigger this time
Did they give you the sizes of the follicles? I think anything over 14mm should have a mature egg 🤞

Akan · 20/05/2024 18:24

No I haven't asked follicle size. I have been started on follisurge 150 & humog 150. I will have follow up scan after 4 doses. I am lil confuse about dosage of medication.

Akan · 20/05/2024 18:25

@Cloclo93 also wish you very best for coming ER

Nessie2395 · 20/05/2024 19:45

I have very low AMH especially for my age. I'm 28 now but last year my AMH was below 5 and I had 9 follicles. I froze embryos for the future (before we'd even tried conceiving naturally), we got 4 eggs from the egg collection and all four fertilised and got to day 5. No transfers yet so don't know how that will go. I only did that because I knew my egg reserve was very low due to endo and we want two children, I'm praying we can conceive one unassisted but we'll see.

I really hope your next EC goes well, fingers crossed for you. It's still a positive you managed to get 3 eggs the first cycle xx

Ilovewheelychairs · 20/05/2024 20:04

Hi,

We went for a second round. We only got 3 eggs again, all fertilised and the double trigger managed to get us two embryos. Our first was a fresh transfer, 5AB embryo. Failed to take. We now have a frozen 3BB embryo as our last chance; we're just waiting a few months to get our heads round it.

Wishing everyone the best of luck with their stims and transfers. It's a complete emotional rollercoaster; even if we finally get our much wanted baby from our last transfer I'm not sure I'll ever get over it all tbh. Lots of love and baby dust to you all!

Hi @Ilovewheelychairs @Nessie2395 What medicine protocol was used for you?

Ilovewheelychairs · 21/05/2024 07:08

First time I was on Gonal F, 300 rising to 350 when I didn't react quickly enough to stims. Ovitrelle trigger.

Second time I was on Bemfola 375. I got l more follicles but sadly as last time, the others were empty. I double triggered with Ovitrelle and Buserelin.
