Can anyone help me make sense with whats going on. I'm 44. We've been ttc for 3 months now. But been tracking since last summer and i'm a regular 32 day cycle. A week before my last period, i had a weird full week of pink spotting when i wipe but barely there. No pads needed. Then no period arrived. So its now 2 weeks on from that and a full 6 wks since my last proper period. I feel low grade nauseous and achy boobs right up in to my arm pit. But the worst is that i am so tired. Come 2pm i can barely function till i've had a nap. Yet i keep testing using ebay strips and always -ve. The only thing i can think is my first wee of the day is usually only a few hours old as i go in the night. But by 6 weeks it should show anyway right? Driving myself mad.

Could it be the start of the menopause? I was speaking to my mum to ask when she started hers and she said in her mid 40s she had something similar and thought she was pregnant (my brother and I were teens by then so would have been a bit of a shock). Her proper menopause was in her early 50s, but she said by mid 40s it was starting to become erratic like you have described.

Maybe. But it has been regular as clockwork till now so hoping not. But i mean i guess i could have skipped one. Is the tiredness and breastpain symptoms of meno too? I am so unprepared for that.

I’d be thinking peri or menopause starting too at 44, can you see the GP for tests?

mommabear64 · 07/06/2023 14:41

I could see the gp but as we've only just started ttc we were trying not to take it too seriously yet and see what happens. I guess i just need to wait till i'm due on this month and see what happens really. And i would just think of it as a skipped period if it wasn't for the pink discharge and the overwhelming tiredness. Neither of which i've ever had outside pregnancy. So weird.

How often do you skip periods?

Never. Been tracking properly since last summer. 32 day cycle regular as clockwork

If I'm honest at 44 you'll have to be taking the TTC seriously as it may be harder. I'd go to the GP to get some bloods and start from there.

TeaKitten · 07/06/2023 14:54

I’d be asking for bloods too, to check for menopause not because TTC hasn’t happened yet. It’d be good to no were you stand

mommabear64 · 07/06/2023 15:32

Well if i had had a normal period i would be ovulating now and i think, THINK, i felt my ovary ping yesterday. Plus we dtd last night so who knows. Maybe lack of period last month means a nice thick uterine lining this month. I guess all i can do is wait and see but its easy to over thing every symptom. The tiredness is killing me though. I have a final evening class tonight for my course. Its the last one and i will have to drag myself there. Ugh.

At 44, I think you should go straight to the doctor for a full fertility MOT - bloods, AMH and scans. Plus your partner have a sperm analysis.

There is no point wasting time seeing how things go only to find out something is wrong and you need fertility assistance to get pregnant, and you have missed being as young as you are now to get going with it.

I say this from a place of kindness as I’ve been TTC for 2.5 years now and no pregnancy. I’ve had one failed IVF transfer and about to start a frozen embryo transfer.

Getting older and fertility is real. No time to waste.

whomoon · 07/06/2023 18:14

And also, it’s normal to have weird periods as you get older and feel EVERY symptom under the sun when TTC. If you’re getting negative tests, then you’re not pregnant. No point waiting and seeing, get to the docs 🙂

Truth is though if it doesn't happen we'll get a dog 😂 like we would never go down the fertility path. It really is a case of if it happens it happens and it would be lovely. But in a few months i guess i could go get bloods done.
