Scared I’m going to miscarry again

Hi everyone just looking for any positive experiences you could share?

bit of context
I had a miscarriage in January this year I went for an early scan thinking I was 7 weeks- I was measuring 6 with a heartbeat and told all ok. I miscarried a week later growth had stopped at 6+4. Miscarriage happened naturally it was quite traumatic to be honest.
I did have spotting on and off throughout the short time I was preg.

Fast forward I am pregnant again according to my dates I should be 7 weeks exactly- I’m measuring 6 weeks again had ann early scan today and there is a heartbeat. No spotting this time and stronger symptoms than previously although I don’t want to read too much into that .

I can’t help but think this is going to happen again given my experience. Is it possible that scans can be a week different? Any positive stories to help me please

Hi there.
Yes, scans can be out, especially in the early days.
I understand how anxious you're feeling. I went through it a lot

As you've seen the heartbeat and there's no bleeding, I think you should be optimistic. Obviously things can go wrong, but I know that the dates on scans often change in the early days.
I'll be thinking of you. I really hope it's okay this time. Losing a baby is tragic.

Just realized I didn't even answer your question. I've had a scan (at six weeks) which saw no heartbeat, but a week later, there WAS a heartbeat and I was dated at eight weeks.

@TheShellBeach Thank you- I know scans can be out im just finding the similarities really triggering. Exactly a week behind same as before. I find it difficult to find comfort in the heartbeat as there was one last time too. I know all I can do is wait it’s just torture. Thank you for your kind words

I'm so sorry. It really is triggering. Especially as they saw a heartbeat last time as well.
When is your next scan?

I’ve been there, my 2nd pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage, we went along to the 12 week scan and baby hadn’t developed beyond the 6 week mark; my body just hasn’t realised. I opted for natural management of miscarriage and ended up miscarrying at what would have been 15 weeks.
I then got pregnant again a few years later, we held off as we really didn’t want to go through a miscarriage again, and we went along to that 12 week scan absolutely in bits thinking the same thing had happened again but all turned out well. It is so hard to remain positive and I really feel for you at the moment, I know some people don’t find it helpful but I have always been of a mind that if it’s meant to be it will be, there’s not an awful lot you can do and I think the powerlessness you feel is the hardest part xx

I've had four Mc. The fourth one measured behind by a week, no heartbeat at 6+3 then heartbeat at 7+3 (still measured exactly a week behind but shouldn't have as ivf pregnancy) but then no heartbeat a week later. But next pregnancy at 6+5 measured 5+5 with heartbeat. Obviously worried again as similar to last time (except natural pregnancy) but I'm now 18 weeks. It's caught up a few days, but not the whole week. I had a trigger shot so they think it just took a while to implant.

@TheShellBeach They have just given me an appointment for 12 week scan so it’s a long wait. Thinking about booking a private one in 10 days im meant to be going on holiday in 2 weeks time so I need to know beforehand

TheShellBeach · 06/06/2023 14:32

Oh, that is a long time. I can see why you'd want to know before your holiday.

Holly1712 · 06/06/2023 14:32

@DurdleLau so sorry to hear about your previous loss a missed MC just sounds awful. happy to hear that everything was well the second time around. You’re so right- there’s nothing I can do and what will be will be. ❤️

@seven201 Sorry to hear about your loss but glad to hear about your recent pregnancy that’s great news and definitely gives me hope! I’m finding my dates very confusing especially because I got a positive on a standard pregnancy test at what I assume was 10/11dpo so if anything this one implanted early. I’m over analysing every detail and not even considering that that the lady doing the scan might have had difficulty measuring. She first said 5-6 weeks then after internal scan did a quick measurement and said 6 weeks/ 5mm CRL

@TheShellBeach another similarity is I was on holiday last time when my previous miscarriage started. Honestly couldn’t make it up!

Just wanted to update this thread. I had a private scan today 8 days after the first NHS one. Baby is now measuring 16.10mm dated 8week 1 day. Not sure how it has gone from 5mm-16mm In a week!! I think the first scan must have been off as this one matches up to my dates perfectly. Heartbeat visible and all is well so far ❤️

When you miscarry, I think it causes you to distrust your own body for future pregnancies. I experienced this myself, with only one miscarriage. It's quite traumatising.

However, you have as good a chance of a successful pregnancy as you did before you were ever pregnant.

Good luck, and try not to worry. Difficult, I realise.
