Morning after pill

So abit of advice or personal experiences please ladies?!
I have a 15 month old, went on the pill straight after birth as we decided no more babies. The pill made me bleed for weeks at a time so we chose to use condoms for a few months to let my cycle regulate. Months on, we still use them and have had no issues with them untill now! A few weeks ago one split, so I went to get a morning after pill. I took it and started to bleed within a day or two. (My period was due in a few days so it only brought me on a couple days earlier). Two days ago we had sex again and another one split!!! I’ve never had this so I’m thinking a faulty batch :( so again I’ve gone to get the morning after pill and the pharmacist said to me because of were I am in my cycle it won’t work?! I’m due on my period in 6 days, so at the time it split I was due in 8 days. I’ve only ever taking the morning after pill on these two occasions but not I’m paranoid it won’t work, surely there’s no chance I could fall pregnant a week before my period?! My flo app says I ovulated well over a week ago. Has anyone had similar?!

If you’ve already ovulated, you don’t need the morning after pill, it is unnecessary to put your body through it.

Ah okay. So a very low chance I could be pregnant then?

I would take it anyway. I took it on cd23 after an accident and got pregnant. My cycles were normal 29/30 days but occasionally up to 35 and obviously that month I ovulated late as I have a 4 year old to prove it. I honestly thought I was fine with it being so late in my cycle but I definitely conceived on cd23 and was gobsmacked when I saw two very clear lines on the test a few weeks later. Take the MAP or if you’re really adamant about not wanting another get an emergency coil fitted.

Flower2219 · 04/06/2023 12:15

Oh wow so you took it and still fell pregnant? I’ve not long taken it just to be safe and I’m gonna discuss the coil with my doctor for the future. Hopefully I’m not pregnant

The pharmacist is right that if you have already ovulated it won’t work.
Id take it anyway. I usually ovulate on day 17, I’m very familiar with my cycle. I once got pregnant on day 7 (intentionally as the fertile signs were there and for various reasons it was the only day we did that month).
Take it on the off chance you have a rogue month.

@Flower2219 yes I did and I have since met a few people who have said the same happened to them. Obviously I had already ovulated and so the MAP did nothing to prevent me from conceiving as all it can do is delay ovulation if it hasn’t already happened. Of course even if you had ovulated there’s no guarantee you would get pregnant anyway but the MAP won’t do anything at all if you’ve ovulated already.

That’s crazy isn’t it. I had no idea that pills wouldn’t work because I’ve never needed them untill now! I’ve taken it anyway in the hopes it works and if not I guess I will need to re think my options. Thankyou for your help

There’s always a chance you’ll still get pregnant due to sperm survival and the egg. However, the morning after pill is such a false economy in my opinion, there’s this TINY window where it works, if you ovulated when you had sex, it becomes irrelevant for the morning after pill and even if you take it, the pregnancy is there.

I would assume you’re fine - no point panicking now til you know
