Early pregnancy scan

i went for a scan yesterday (transvaginal), for reassurance. The sac was measuring 5weeks 4 days but couldn’t see a baby. They said it could possibly be too early or could be a miscarriage. Has anyone else had this please

Did they see a yolk sac? That’s often visible at those dates but it may be too early for a fetal pole to be seen. My first pregnancy I had a scan at 5+3 and a sac and yolk sac could be seen but no fetal pole. This pregnancy I waited until 6 weeks for the scan and a fetal pole and heartbeat could be seen, so a few days can make a big difference.

They did see a yolk sac, they recommended to contact Epu and get another scan in 2 weeks. I’m so nervous now

Most places won't scan before 6 weeks. When you go off first day of last period what dates do you think you are?

My start date of my last period was 22nd of April so I thought I was 6 weeks yesterday

Hey! I had an early scan when I thought I was 6+2 according to my last period. I had the same situation where the scan showed I was actually around 5weeks and there was a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no little bean. I went back for a scan a week later and the bean was there with a heartbeat. I’m now almost 33 weeks :)!

Hey thank you for that, did you get referred to the early pregnancy unit? As I’ve got my first midwife appointment Friday and was just wondering whether I should ask her to be referred to make me feel better

Fingers crossed for your next scan. I never quite know how these things work as although by a period date you're saying 6 weeks, in reality ovulation and conception could have been up to 2 weeks later so you could be only around 4 weeks.

I know my hospital will offer an early scan at 8 weeks as I had a mmc but not sure if I should count that as my 8 weeks from my ovulation or go from my period date. All a little confusing.

@T1245 no the scan at 5 weeks was a private scan and so they just asked me to come back a week later for a rescan. It was after then that I booked my bookings appointment at my hospital and registered my pregnancy

The private scan just said to consult my gp and early pregnancy unit and get a scan in 2 weeks times
