Clomid, IUI, Confusion

Hi all! walks in carefully

I am new here but reading now for a few months. We are ttc at present and I am sort of at the end of my tether. I was diagnosed with endo 2 years ago for which I had a laparoscopy. My tubes were fine. This was all done privately but because I moved jobs (and insurance) they won't refund anything to do with fertility. So.. back to the NHS. They found out I wasn't ovulating and after 2 months on 50mg of Clomid, they put me on 100mg. Wahey! I ovulated in Dec. After that... Well good guess. They stopped scanning me and taking blood. I went to see my consultant (who is booked up months in advance) and after a 2 hr wait she saw us for 5 min and suggested we'd do a blood test to see if I ovulated this month. She was 100% sure we did and when DH asked what we would do in case I hadn't, she nearly bit his head off. She was that keen to get rid of us. Well the blood test now said I haven't ovulated. My question(s). Has this happened to anyone? She cannot see us until April now and I am so very upset with how our lives are on hold. She suggested we'd try IUI but I am feel she is not actually listening to us, or our situation. I feel very deflated and came here as all my friends and family are popping babies out and I get the: 'Just be patient' line. Anyone experienced frustrations with their consultant?

Thanks! x Cara

Hi Cara,

I would find another consultant to work with as this person is clearly not listening to any of your concerns. You can be re-referred by the GP to another subfertility unit and tbh I would not take no for an answer. It is fair to say that some of these units are far better than others.

Do you have a diagnosis of the problem re the not ovulating. This is often caused by hormonal imbalances (in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit) or thyroid problems. Clomid is usually prescribed for polycystic ovaries but it is not suitable for everyone to take. Clomid resistance can happen.

Did they tell you anything about the endo post op - where it was sited etc?. Did they laser it all out or was the lap purely done as a diagnostic procedure (I hope this was not the case with you).

Hi and thanks for replying. Thyroid checked: was fine. PCOS ruled out. I have mild endo and tubes were all clear. I know patience is something you really need with this but I am worried if I want to be referred to another ACU it will take months again. Last week (after waiting for months to be seen) I just felt she shipped us off with a: keep trying clomid, I am sure you still ovulate bye bye. I was fuming when the hospital called to say my prog level was very very low. My periods are regular now though?
Oh and I was lasered and the consultant thought i would have no further problems (but they failed to treat me with the pill etc as I wanted to start trying). Now I will get seen for IUI but I have a feeling they don't really listen to what I think is going on. I was thinking maybe investing in seeing Zita West's clinic but with the IUI etc we will have costs to consider. I am like most of you.. You see pregnant women and try not to envy them. You have friends who say you should stress less, and one even told me I should just get drunk, have a sha8 and it would all happen. I know because they fell pregnant so easily, it is hard to understand but it is really wearing me down. Also I live near London so the fertlity units here are very very busy making the service very impersonal. I will try Clomid on 150mg and get a prog test done, but April seems like ages away and even with IUI there are just no guarantees as there is no ovulation. I wanted to write a complaint letter to her but I know that will just end up on a pile. I just want to know why I did ovulate on the start of my 100MG and then just stopped. Sorry for the long rant, but feeling like a number is wearing me down!
