Thick womb lining after period?

I've just had a scan to kick off a natural cycle frozen embryo transfer, after IVF gave us my DS in 2021. I'm on day 7 of my cycle, and not only is there no dominant follicle, my womb lining is also 9.4mm. Given that I only stopped bleeding on Friday (4 days ago!), this seems odd? The nurse doing the scan also said it appeared bright, as if I was due on my period.

I have regular cycles, albeit quite long (35-40 days), without any major symptoms so I feel a bit baffled. Obviously I've googled it and found out about endometrial hyperplasia, but I'm wondering if it could be anything else.

Has anyone else experienced this?

@BananaHammock23 Hi,
I would say its an issue unless it's thicker than 16mm plus at the end of your cycle then considered "too thick" which you would have to have an additional scan towards the end of your cycle to see. I have a thick lining. Mine was 19mm I had two biopsy's and a hycoposy camera. Two polyps removed and all biopsy's came back normal. I didn't have the hyperplasia. So thick doesn't always necessary mean hyperplasia. They worry as this is the type of lining that can turn nasty. Have they said about a gynae referral or a follow up scan? I had a coil in to keep mine thin but I wanted to try and conceive again as I'm now 40 and I had non stop problems with the coil.

Hi @BananaHammock23 - I am literally experiencing pretty much the same. How are you doing now? I gave birth to my first son via ifv - in 2022, then my body never felt the same but nothing has been picked up despite my complaining to gynea and GPs about pain in my uterus. Now was about to go on for another ivf cycle and on day 20 of my menstrual cycle my lining was nearly 17mm. I am due a repeat scan and freaking out!

Hi @BeaLittleBraver- sorry I only just saw your reply! I had two natural cycles and in the end had the same problem - lining appeared thick despite having bled. I ended up switching to medicated cycles and it wasn’t an issue anymore. I got pregnant both cycles - one ectopic (an expensive ectopic!) and one is my now 8-month old DD!

Interestingly, when I had my c section they noticed signs of endometriosis and I wonder if that’s why this happened. I don’t have any symptoms though, just adhesions on my reproductive organs and bladder. It’s a bit of a mystery to be honest.

Hope you have success on your next cycle. Good luck!
