AMH level - 11.8 - Low

Hi,

So im TTC baby #2 and the docs referred me for a scan which looked pretty normal (according to GP) however my AMH came back at 11.8 which is in the 'Low' range. She didnt really explain this well and said lose weight (BMI is 32) and get referred back when you have.

Anyone help explain what this means? Does it mean i wont be able to conceive by myself? Im 33 so gutted that they are in the 'low' - thought i definitely had a few more fertile years in me, also very worried that i will now go through peri menopause.

Hi, are you referring to anti mullerian hormone? My understanding is that a "normal" value is 1-3, and "high" is 3-6, so unfortunately can't help you. Are you sure she said 11.8?

Hi,

Yeah i think mine is in PMOL and your referring to it in ngol.

(Lots of googling since i wrote the post!) - Not sure how to convert it

Ok yeah, it's probably in pmol/L instead of ng/ml (if they were the same units (ie in ml or l), the conversion between nano and pico is to divide by 1000).

At 33 having an AMH of 11.8 doesn't seem catastrophically low, it's apparently still within the normal range, just perhaps at the slightly lower end of normal.

Losing weight will help you with TTC and your overall health in general, so hopefully she's right and it will increase :)

That said, I don't think you're anywhere near approaching menopause just yet, so don't worry!!

AMH doesn’t have a huge effect on your ability to get pregnant. Egg quality is far more important. AMH is more relevant when doing ivf.
