Is my hcg too low at 5 weeks

Hi all, I'm 5 weeks 3 days. Got hcg bloods done 3 days ago and it came back 490. Doctor seems really happy and said I'm exactly where she wants it to be. But I'm worried. I've seen some women at 5 weeks in the 1000's.

If you google hCG levels online you’ll see that the “normal” range are vast. They all slightly disagree on what the bandings are, but this image is just one from the American Pregnancy Association.

Quoting directly from the APA: Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 -6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.

1 bhcg level by itself means nothing, you need 2 results 48hrs apart to see if it’s rising accordingly. You can have a high reading but if you get another result 2 days later and it’s not increased by that much then it’s not good. You can have a low reading that if it doubles after 48 hours then it’s promising.

When the level is over 1500 then usually able to see something on a scan

I can't get a test as I'm working for the next few weeks, just wanted to see if other women had 490 at 5 weeks too

Update: I got a 3 plus weeks on my digital today. Have to assume its in the 1000's now

As someone said below, the level bandings are really really tricky to work out as they are so vague. I finished my two week wait, two weeks ago after my third ivf cycle was finally successful.

I had two tests. Clinic wouldn't do any as I wasn't bleeding so I paid privately. The most important thing is the rise in your results. One result alone is no good as the main thing is the rise you should be getting; doubling within 48/72!hours.

My OTD was the Monday.

I tested the following-

Thursday - 3606

Tuesday - 17268

Get yourself a second test, either with your clinic or privately so you can start to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Delighted that the clinic are happy. They wouldn't say that if they didn't believe it

I took a clearblue today and it has gone from 2-3 to 3 plus. Can assume now I'm in the thousands. I've no days left work wise to get to docs untill two weeks time. Not meaning to irritate people either by asking questions , my previous mc's have definitely made me anxious.

please can I ask for your help.
I had what I thought was my last period on the 17th April. - on the 15th May I had bloods that came back as 3.41 HCG and then started bleeding (thought I was getting my period bled for 3 days) Friday 17th May but I already had bloods for repeating and went to the appointment which came back as 4.65.
The GP told me about this on 23rd said there was a slight rise and it maybe worth repeating a pregnancy test the day after 24th as would have been a week since this result.
the test digital came back as positive 1-2 weeks on clear blue.
on Tuesday 28th I took another clear blue digital which says 2-3 weeks pregnant. I also had bloods that night privately which came back as 225 HCG and then the following morning my GP requested I attend and have bloods taken which came back as 310 (16 hours after the previous ones).
on scan they obv cannot see anything - I am waiting for the registra to call me back.
I don’t know what to think.
does anyone think this is good? I have no idea how far along I am or anything.

you may want to make your own thread. it looks like the numbers are rising but slower than i'd expect them too. realistically youd be over six weeks at this point so they're very low. Do you know when you ovulated. could you have ovulated very late?

I honestly have no idea. When I bled on the 24th it was negative and I just asumed my period had come? So if I was 4 weeks then would I have gotten a positive? Really unsure when I ovulated as my periods are all over the place
