Hi All, currently waiting to start IVF on nhs and have just received my letter for my first appointment/screening and have no idea what to expect. Have also received 2 vaginal swabs which I have to do prior to my first appointment. Wondering if anyone has any insight and can tell me what I should expect from my first appt. TIA x

@Lola93 congrats in receiving your letter, now the fun times begin lol :).
It was a year or so ago receiving my letter but I recall that the first appointment both myself and partner had bloods taken, as I had some tests privately beforehand we were already in receipt of my partners semen results and also my hycosy results. These are something that might also be done on your first appointment or at least be discussed (i think there might be a waiting time for the hycosy and might only be given after further testing). They will also weight you and test both of you are non smokers. The NHS were very strict with both and BMI needs to be 30 or under.
I also had an internal scan to check for any obvious issues. Once all results have been received another appointment will be made to discuss the best plan for you.
Good luck on your journey x

@Lola93 also, the swabs you have, I done at the clinic, I think these are to test for STD's :)

Good luck with everything lovely!

I had my bloods done via GP before IVF referral, and my partner had his sperm analysis before also.
We had an initial consultation (just before Covid hit) where we discussed history, had BMI (weight and height) and a smokers test done for both me and my partner. I also had an internal vaginal scan to check everything.

I was then referred to for a HyCoSy to check tubes open due and we also were held back another two months before on waiting list as my partner has mentioned he socially smoked (when drinking) which had been a long time ago but regardless any mention and you are held back. Need to be there months smoke free before they will put you on waiting list

After that time we went back (although it was video call) and were put on the list officially. I had my HyCoSy before then which showed all fine.

We were then left with quite a long wait, just waiting for letter in the post to say we were top of the list. With Covid hitting it stopped things which then put a delay on others so our time took a lot longer than it initially would have

I do now have a 16 month old dd snoozing next to me for her nap so it was definitely all worth it and worth the wait!

@Lola93 first consultation is basically just some questions about you and your partner. You'll be asked to fill out some forms. The took bloods and gave me an ultrasound and swab. They will also take your weight to ensure your bmi is under their requirements ( this varies between boards) i was nervous before going but its quite straight forward and not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Depending on what you've had done before hand they may or may not order some further tests for you or your partner

Thankyou for your reply x

I have had all my blood tests done & my partner has had his SA done before we were placed onto the list we’ve had 6 months waiting on the list and today just recieved my letter for my ART appt reading over my paperwork I’m sure the swabs I have to do myself and take are for STDs. My ART appt is 5 weeks time. Just so eager to get started now & of course nervous xx

Thankyou so much.

I had my bloods done & my partner had his SA before we were placed on the list. Officially been on the list 6 months and never heard anything else until now the waiting is so hard! Today I got my date for my ART appointment which is about 5 weeks away, I’m a bit Nervous for this as no clue what to expect or how long after this we will start treatment. we go away on Holiday in 2 weeks and I was nervous we would get appt for these dates so I’m glad it isn’t but just so eager to get started now 😭 we have kept it quiet and haven’t told anyone so these pages are good to get some advice from others who have been there! So lovely to hear you got your little miracle x

@Lola93 Hey I know this is an old post but wondering how you got on? I received my letter from the hospital to the fertility clinic last week so waiting to hear from the clinic to get booked in! Did the IVF clinic redo all your tests or did they go off your NHS results? X
