Short periods

Hey everyone,

I’m CD2 today so just entered out 16th month of TTC 😪💔 we are both 28. I’ve had blood work done and an ultrasound examination and both were fine and proved I am ovulating fine (I also checked BBT for 6 months as well). Husband has had SA and that’s fine too. We are currently on the very long waiting list for the fertility clinic.

I have a regular 31/32 day cycle and normal ovulate about CD18 so my LP is 14 days long. My main concern at the moment is the fact that my periods are short has any had this kind of period and conceived/found it was normal etc: TMI warning!!

sometimes I get about 12 hours of light bleeding before my period starts properly. Normally only enough to fill a panty liner
day 1: heavy ish bleeding - changing about 5 times through the day.
day 2: starts heavy then goes lighter towards the end of the day
day 3: back to light bleeding. Sometimes wearing a normal pad/tampon other days wearing a panty liner ( i would change this several times in the day though)
day 4/5 and sometimes 6: super light bleeding more spotting towards day 6.

my GP doesn’t seem concerned as my hormones are fine from my blood work and my lining was fine on my ultrasound but I’m concerned this is a reason why we have been trying for so long without success. I feel like 2 days of proper bleeding and then spotting/light periods are definitely on the short side and it’s worrying.

Hi I’m in the same boat I’ve been TTC for 18 months it’s so stressful. My period only last 3/4 days and I have seen a private fertility specialist and she said it doesn’t matter how long your periods last. She said they only worry about how long your cycle is . (First day of period to your next period) I hope that makes sense 😊

Similar boat here 👋🏼 started TTC December 2021 - lost count of cycles as had quite a few random 15day cycles!
I have endo which affects me but a had surgery to remove it and it's never been attached to ovaries so shouldn't in theory affect fertility too much, and still no luck! Sorry your going through this too, it's is so stressful isn't it!
I'm 29 and the older I've gotten the shorter my periods are, they used to be 5-7 days and now I have spotting for 1-3 days super light first - like once a day light (used to always think it was implantation) - followed by 2 heavy days and then 2 light days, so also quite similar to you 🤍 like @Tequilachic12 says the gynaecologist told me not to worry about period length just cycle length, I take supplements for my length as they were too short

It's super stressful but I've found distraction in the best thing, book things, plan things and keep busy!
I put quite a few things on hold with that 'I'll be pregnant by then' mindset and ended up missing out and feeling worse, something to look forward to definitely helps 🥰

I have an almost identical period to you, and cycle. Only been TTC since January, but saw GP last year and was iron deficient. Now that’s improved. GP didn’t have any concerns about the period length, more the regularity of cycles. No suggestions-it’s so hard! I think keeping busy with other things does help me-I’m making plans, trips etc as i usually would.

Hi, similar position here. Started ttc January 2022 and no luck so far.
My cycles are quite irregular but periods sound similar to yours. Few days of spotting before af arrives and then a couple of heavy days followed by about 3-4 days of spotting. I use a mooncup so can literally see it's just a few drops some days. Fertility Dr has said period length isn't relevant so I'm trying not to think about it. I feel I've become so anxious an obsessive during this ttc journey.

Feeling like I can't face tracking cycles anymore this month. All the peeing on sticks, getting hopeful and forcing sex is just getting really tedious now.

Thank you all for your replies I’m so sorry you are all in the same boat ( it’s a rubbish boat to be in) but it does make me feel less alone. We have been trying since October 2021 but we had a few months off when I caught covid because my periods stopped altogether for almost 3 months. They came back September last year and have been regular again since but I do worry it’s somehow made me ‘more infertile’. It’s such a hard journey. I just over analyse everything and it drives me insane.

good to know that most of you have similar period flow to me though and that fertility doctors are not that concerned. I’m on day 3 now and I’m so light 😭

on a happier note we did book a trip away last night for a few weeks time because we felt we both needed a break away!
