Prenatal vitamin or normal multivitamin?

We are planning on TTC our first in the summer after our wedding. We wanted to give us the best chance so have started vitamins. I’m taking normal multivitamins as well as folic acid and my partner is taking the same multivitamin. Should we be taking special pre natal vitamins? They seemed to be double the price and things are tight with the wedding 🙈 however we don’t want to risk anything with a future baby!

thanks 😊

General multivitamins aren't recommended since they contain vitamin a which nhs advises to avoid as too much vitamin can cause serious birth defects. Vitamin a is stored in the body for months so it's not required daily.
Best thing you can do is to ensure it dosent contain vitamin a

Ah that’s great thank you I didn’t know that. Would my fiancé be ok to take the normal one? Thanks.

My doctor told me to take pregnacare. I know it's for pregnancy but lots if women take it while ttc aswell. Not sure about multivitamin. I think they advise against it because it has vitamin a which your supposed to avoid during pregnancy and ttc incase you get pregnant

@MAY324 yes it's fine to men to take a supplement containing vitamin a.
It's just because of the fact its stored in the body for a long time and large amounts in the body affect a developing baby ,so women should avoid it.
I've attached some photos from nhs website regarding Vitamin a. Eating it through veg , like carrots ect is perfectly fine. Just avoid fish liver oil like cod liver oil and some other fish are high in vitamin a and should be avoided also.

There's a pregnacare conception vitamin you can take, and there's one for men too.

Folic acid definitely. Pre conception. But why not just eat a healthy, balanced diet and save yourselves the money?

We definitely are eating really healthily too! Got to fit in the wedding outfits 😂 but just want to be extra sure! Have ordered a pre natal one for me thank you 😊
