Low progesterone

Asking on behalf of a friend... she is currently being referred to the infertility clinic as her day 21 bloods came back as low progesterone. She's never had a peak ovulation test and her cycles are long (around 40 days). I know doctors will not recommend taking tablets without prescription etc. but we were wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and tried anything that she can try until she is seen by the gynae.

TIA

Did she take the test day 21? That might not actually be the correct day if her cycles are that long.

a lot of people rave about maca root for supporting ovulation but I'm giving it a miss for now as evidence is conflicting.

@Mangotango39 she did tell the doctor about her long cycles and I thought this too. But they didn't suggest another blood test later in her cycle. I think her levels were really low so didn't even look like they were increasing towards ovulating and followed by never getting a peak ovulation test I am guessing this is why they have gone straight for referral. Thanks will look into it! She is going to start taking agnus cactus which is supposed to help balance hormones.

Progesterone can be prescribed , it was for me .

Was this prescribed by your GP or did you have to be referred to a gynae to prescribe this?

@KCT93 , I asked for it from the GP but he said he didn't know enough about it so wouldn't prescribe it . So I ended up getting it when I went to a fertility appointment at the hospital only after I asked for it though .
