Spotting but progesterone levels normal

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone might be able to advise me as even my doctors seem to be stumped.

I have been ttc for 18 months. I consistently spot every month for about 7 days leading up to my period (my period is then very light). I have had my progesterone levels tested three separate times now and they have always come back normal. I have had every fertility test under the sun and all results have been normal there too. My fertility doctor said it’s therefore “not a fertility problem”…however, surely monthly spotting indicates something is wrong? My GP is in agreement with me, advising that even if I do get pregnant, there is a chance I won’t be able to sustain it unless this problem is addressed.

I have tried progesterone pessaries, lots of supplements, acupuncture… but the spotting remains.

I realise this is likely a very niche problem but if anyone had any similar experience oradvice, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks,
EJ

So I had spotting for around 18 months before I got pregnant for about 4/5 days before I got my period. I have cervical ectophy (harmless) and I think it's that causing the bleeding. I have had clear smears but they could see this on my last smear.

I was booked in to have the progesterone test a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant so I didn't go. But I don't think my bleeding was related to that.

If it is cervical ectophy they will be able to see it on a cervical exam. It's just when the cells from inside the womb grow outside on to the cervix. Mine was caused by my first pregnancy but I believe the pill etc can also cause it.

May not be this but worth getting it checked. If you have a cervical exam recently and they didn't mention this it's likely not that x

@Tryingtoconceivenumber2 my GP suspected that but unfortunately (or fortunately?!) my cervical tests are all clear. It’s such a mystery.

Thanks for the quick reply!
