Basically just a threat wanting to know anyone experiences with Macca Root.

i’ve seen so many people do videos online about it, saying it’s massively helped their PCOS and others saying they where TTC’ing for months and took Macca Root for 14 days to a month and got pregnant that cycle.

is anyone here taking it?
i ordered some late last night but need to do further research about as I’m taking loads of vitamins atm and need to know is there any I need to stop taking when I start to take Macca root.

I am also tempted by this .... what strength did you order?

Nmmck93 · 01/05/2023 11:30

@Mangotango39 I went for this one because the 3 videos that came up on my for you page on TikTok was all 4000mg strength so decided to stick with that.

Not sure about women’s fertility but I know it’s supposed to be brilliant for increasing a man’s sex drive

Baileyshotchocolate · 01/05/2023 11:42

When I came off my pill last Dec I started using the Free Soul Protein shake as an addition to my diet, it does contain Maca, happy to say I’m now 11 weeks pregnant and continuing with the shakes (after checking with midwife) , definitely recommend

@Katiex84x yeah I've heard that aswell; going to try convince my OH to take it aswell, might make doing the baby dance during fertile week less of a chore 😂

@Baileyshotchocolate aww congratulations, I'm going to check up if I have to stop the other supplements that I'm taking at the minute as there is iron in these and I take seven seas trying for a baby and it has iron and all that stuff in it.

Thank you and sending you the best of luck. I found a magnesium supplement, I take 187mg mg tablet every other day and echinacea tablet everyday super helpful too, noticed a difference in my energy levels and general wellness, these were the only supplements I took along with the shakes x

Nmmck93 · 01/05/2023 12:09

@Baileyshotchocolate I was just looking at your shakes and it has a lot of the supplements that I take in the shake so I'll continue to take those and stop the seven seas trying for a baby and replace it with folic acid and give it a go when my Macca root arrives!
Thank you! Feeling hopefully for may 💜

I am giving macaroot a miss for now, I heard it can do more harm then good for those with PCOS (I have it!) so it'll be something perhaps for later down the line for me if all else fails

I have PCOS, 1 period a year if I'm lucky. Been ttc for 3 years. I started it on 3rd April and started a period yesterday! I heard it can be worse too but I'm not getting pregnant rn anyway so what's the harm :) xx

Definitely worth a go then !
I think I will give it 3 months from now and try if haven't caught by then I will be going on metformin then macaroot after that if that doesn't work.

My periods are not to bad , have one every month but usually a difference in days 29-32 days . 31 average though. Seem to be peaking every month also.

have you ever tried metformin?

paigehl2000 · 12/05/2023 10:24

It wouldn't let me reply ^^ but yea I hve tried tried that but as I'm not insulin resistant it didn't do anything x

Hopingforamiracle12 · 14/05/2023 01:32

Ive used maca. It can do more harm than good. I took it for 6 months. I actually had bloods done the month before I took it . First month I thought wow It brought on my period after 2 weeks or so after almost 4 months of not having it. Second month I had a 36 day I think period. I thought this stuff is brilliant.Third month no period.. went on for months and went to see a fertility clinic and had more bloods. Fucking shit screwed my body up. Estrogen was high. One doctor told me maca can stimulate estrogen. Testosterone was up and i started growing unwanted hair all over my face and chest when I never had it before. Maca is the devil . I wouldn't take it again for a million pound. I'm stuck with the side effects permanently and it robbed 2 years of my life trying to straighten my hormones out. Don't toy with herbs. I would see a doctor if your struggling. There's many options .
I finished letrozole cycles but was not successful and I'm now discussing ivf. The maca was like a savage beast that destroyed my body and exaggerated my pcos giving me symptoms that I never experienced before. It's great for men but not for women. Don't listen to people these kind of supplements. They've never conducted any research or trials . Stick with science

KJ00 · 14/05/2023 12:42

Hi . I have and would not recommend it. I was recommended it by my acupuncturist .
Do your own research and consult your gp before taking it . Don't listen to what people are telling you on videos on YouTube ect. I havent seen anyone recommend maca for pcos other than bloggers. I've never seen anyone back it up. Alot of videos people post aren't even genuine and are for views/sponsored. Alot of mumnetters aren't even genuine. I've seen a few of them post something on one post then on another completely different story like they have nothing better to do. I had a really negative experience of using maca I'm afraid.i also have pcos BTW. I was told to avoid maca by the fertility clinic and my friend. I'd dabbled for a few cycles. My friend , I can't even think of her professional title but she's into natural remedies . She runs appointments and sees people and gives them advice regarding alternative medicine. Like a hippy doctor lol 😆 she told me not to take maca. I think people saying they took maca and magically are pregnant are full of bullshit. If maca was a miracle powder nobody would have infertility problems . There's one particular women on YouTube can't remember her name kristy or something but she said she used maca and said it was the only thing she did different that cycle and got pregnant at 40. Then she said in a later video she did ivf and the time correlated with when she was claiming it was all to do with the maca and q10. Load of shit 😆

Thanks everyone for the posts, I did start Macca over a week ago, no changes at all, I'm CD11 and my tests aren't getting any darker as it's suppose to help ovulation aswell as egg quality. I think from today I'm going to stop taking Macca just because since I've started it I've literally had bad diarrhoea daily and I would have normal bowel movements. I'm going on holiday tonight and my fertile window is starting tomorrow so I'm going to stop Macca and see how I go.

I have had history of PCOS but in the last 2 years I've had no flare ups, pains or anything concerning (that's since I have came off the pill) I'm just going to take my usual vitamins that I've been taking and exclude Macca. 🙈

I took this hoping for the same and it actually prevented me from ovulating! Obviously could be a coincidence but if I take my metformin and inositol I'm mostly regular

I think it's different for everyone tbh, as I haven't ovulated ever on my home tests. I started Maca on 3rd may and since then I've had a period and am closer to ovulating than I have ever been in my life!

Not ovulating yet but close :)

Nmmck93 · 18/05/2023 22:01

I stopped it 4 days ago @paigehl2000 but I don't know if I've ovulated, i got my LH surge and I usually feel ovulation pain when I've ovulated but I've had nothing since my peak yesterday.
I usually have 1 high test and then a peak in a month but this month I have attached below.
It's so confusing lol.

Hi I started taking Maca root not for PCOS purposes but I've had recurrent losses and was willing to try anything! I started using it in April and conceived this cycle however I'm currently under investigation for 'Pregnancy of unknown location'. I'm not sure if it helped me to conceive again but I'm glad I tried it x

Nmmck93 · 25/05/2023 20:37

@MrsBFaith oh, so you have conceived but not implanted in the womb? I feel Macca root helped me keep a good peak this month, I usually catch my peak in the evening and by the next morning it's back down to like 0.11 but this cycle I had over 24 hours of highs and my peak. Im 7dpo today so will just have to see if this is my cycle.

Macca root has to be stopped once you reach your peak aswell which im so glad I remembered 🙈

OP posts:
MrsBFaith · 25/05/2023 21:41

Praying this is the cycle for you 😊

Yeah that's the case for me the EPU are monitoring my bloods so I'm not quite sure whats happening yet

Ladyinpink1 · 05/05/2024 19:54

Hi @Nmmck93 I know this is an old post but just wondering if you had any success with the maca? x

Nmmck93 · 06/05/2024 22:38

@Ladyinpink1 hi lovely, no unfortunately not and still trying. I did have to stop Macca root though as if gave me severe diarrhoea & also really bad stomach cramps. I also started spotting and once I stopped Macca root spotting stopped etc.
I think it’s more trial and error as it works for some people and doesn’t work for others. X

Ladyinpink1 · 07/05/2024 06:24

Thank you for replying @Nmmck93 I'm sorry you are still trying, hope you have success very soon x

Flower1992 · 26/06/2024 22:18

Hi, sorry to bring up an old post. But I am experiencing spotting 5 days after ovulating.. which happened on day 9 rather than day 17 after taking Maca. I was wondering how long the spotting went on for? And after you got AF, did your cycle return to normal?

Nmmck93 · 28/06/2024 19:55

@Flower1992 i spotted for 4/5 days before ovulation and then I stopped Macca root then I ovulated on CD14 of that month - as far as I remember you are suppose to stop Macca root once you hit peak?

I’ve never went back to Macca root & I’ve not been forwarded to hospital for investigations of my ovaries etc and have been advised just to take my usual pregnacare conception vitamins until I get seen to!
