Thickened Endometrium

Has anyone had experience with this whilst TTC?

I suffer with very heavy periods and feel like I could be estrogen dominant.

We are struggling to conceive. All other tests have come back normal. 😩

Hey, I do. I had a scan that showed thickened endometrium and had a rescan after period but they were satisfied all had been cleared out. Have you been rescanned after your period? Thickened endometrium can increase risks of other issues like polyps and endometrial hyperplasia but if your period sheds it all then it’s likely fine, or so I was told. I did Google a bit about fertility and found a study showing less pregnancy rates but it seems to be better than having an endometrium that is too thin if that makes sense… I’m not sure it hinders conception as I also have endo and adenomyosis. I have one DD but have been trying for ages now… 11 months post laparoscopy I conceived but it ended in a chemical. I’m 5 cycles on since then and in the TWW… best of luck to you. Happy to chat if it helps, I did have a polyp but since it was removed the thickened endometrium remained. I am also estrogen dominant but I have good progesterone levels in the luteal phase so it’s not always an issue, have you had day 3 and day 21 blood tests?xx

Hi @Endomummy thanks for the reply. That's very interesting to know. My latest scan showed thickness of 19mm 2 days before my period. Can you remember what yours was?

Sorry to heat about your chemical.

I have had all my bloods done and all have been okay. My concern is that if I am estrogen dominant, my progesterone won't be ‘strong enough’. I'm going to try Cyclogest this month. Have you tried it?

I also had it and it cleared after a bleed. They didn't seem to think it would have much of an impact on conceiving though when I asked. I also have adenomyosis and heavy bleeds.

I think having it done just before your period is the worst time as that's when it's at its thickest. They should definitely be getting you back in for a rescan after you have had a bleed to get another measurement early in your cycle, so push for that.

Mine was 17.5mm about a week before my period I think. I’ve also got adenomyosis and did have a polyp found during endo surgery so I have gynae issues anyway. Horrible periods since they started and awful ovulation pain. I only have a few pain free days each month. Did you get the cyclogest from the nhs? Do you know why they gave it if your bloods were fine? Just curious as I’ve not been offered it, I was discharged from the fertility clinic as I ovulate and all my numbers were good. Also have a DD so not eligible for ivf on the nhs.

Hi @Endomummy we went private. The reason behind it is even if you are making enough progesterone if you are estrogen dominant your lining may start shedding early, this can affect implantation. I spot a few days before my period which again is a sign of not enough progesterone.

I gave been told I likely gave adenemyosis and endo. The NHS obviously don't seem to care. I was told to lose weight. I'm sure it may help the estrogen dominance, but I also struggle to lose weight. It comes off so slowly!! x

@TunnocksTCake oh thanks, that's good to know. What was your lining?

@StarL2021 I can't remember the exact measurements I'm afraid but it was high teens.

Hi everyone!
I went for a scan yesterday and was told my endometrium was 17.5mm but I had no polyps or cysts or anything. My periods are really regular and not painful apart from a mild lower back ache and insane anger that comes with it!
they are re scanning me in two weeks after my period (well it will probably be during it to be honest)
thing that has confused me is this seems to be a problem meaning too much estrogen, but I had my bloods done about a month ago and was told they were “normal” this has scared me even more, cause it my hormones are normal they won’t give me any progesterone or anything to thinnen my lining slightly, and I’m scared I won’t get pregnant!
help!
