Early response tests - how good are they?

I spent so much money when ttc dd2. It did get ridiculous and took someones advice on here and buying a batch on ebay to save £'s.

my periods are very regular so i knew the day i was due. I could not hang on and was dying to know so bought Early Response test with two in a box. Tested the day before I was due and it was negative, booed and felt sorry for myself. The next morning was my actual due date and used the second stick and it was an extremely faint positive !

I cant remember if the test is able to test 3 or 4 days before due date. I am due on Monday and think I maybe pregnant again and as usual its killing me waiting . I am tempted to go and buy a Early Response test but am I wasting my money?

I wonder how many people get positive results 3 or 4 days before?

Interested to know.

thanks

I used a FR when I was about 3 days late, BFN, a week later I got a BFP with a different brand (Predictor).

Am sure others have had different experiences though.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you

Melodies · 15/02/2008 15:48

Thats strange so you were a week and a half overdue before you found out?

That FR was rubbish then .

Can I ask if you are regular each month?

Its silly because I know next week I will find either way. If I am not then I will be sad but we have not really been ttc just happy if it happens.

I tested with First Response before period was due and got BFN, then tested with second stick when period was about a week late - BFP. Although when I tested early, it was in the afternoon after a big glass of water. Perhaps if I'd done it first thing in the morning it might have been positive?

Melodies · 15/02/2008 16:01

They do say you can test any time of the day.

So I wonder if anyone on here actually got a positive before their actual date. That is why we all bough them!

Not fair! I hate waiting!!!

Ah well, roll on Monday and we will see.

I keep smelling everything, getting dizzy and have queasy moments but then I have had plenty of these when not pregnant so it could be wishing!

I was 9 days late when I got my BFP, I'd done 1000's of test in the run up to and the first couple of days I was late, then decided enough was enough I wasn't testing again as I obviously wasn't pregnant. I moped about for a week mulling it over until DH had had enough and brought me home the Predictor tests and made me do it.

I was only on my second cycle after coming off the pill, so hadn't really got into a pattern with AF's. It has been so long since I have had a natural AF pattern of sorts, I can't remember exactly how long I had in between AF's but I know that I wasn't one of these people that come on exactly 28 days from the last time etc.

We have a thread running here for people who are waiting to TTC, if you feel like it, come and join in, it is a bit of a laugh if nothing else!

wannaBe · 15/02/2008 16:08

Don't do it. There are statistics somewhere as to how accurate these tests are, and the stats for 4 days before af due is about 60% accurate. If you get bfn you will still be left wondering. Save your money and wait to see if you come on on Monday.

newtoallofthis · 15/02/2008 17:00

I did a first response test on CD 27, 28 and 29 of a 30 day cycle and got a BFP on all three....the first test was a very faint positive response line, but each consecutive test has been darker and there is no doubting that they are a BFP.

(Of course I am only on CD29 today - so lets just see if it sticks!!)

Melodies · 15/02/2008 17:30

newtoallofthis - congrats!!!!

waannabe - you are right, i held a clear blue in my hands just now and put it back!

nataliejane - thanks for letting me know. i'll take a look

Hi there
I am on day 29 and tested for some reason on day 25 and dont usually get period til day 23, I have no idea why I tested as was bursting for a wee and stopped mid flow to wee on the stick (3 for a pound at our local pound shop) got a very faint positive and they have got darker each day. Got a boots test which came up straight away yest eve.
I am keeping fingers and legs crossed it stays in place but hopefully the darker the line gets the better chance it means that it is implanting

Melodies · 15/02/2008 22:16

Jenwa

Congratulations!

Well as you speak I can feel that familiar feeling in my tummy just before period starts. Kind of a churning so I guess thats my answer... lucky I did not spend £13 on those Clear Blue digital tests.

I wish I had a pound shop near me selling cheap tests.

My 2nd baby I got a positive on the day i was due and the line was ever so faint but that was enough for me. I knew they could not be wrong.

melodies,
are you sure your perio is coming as you got a faint positive? Fingers crossed for you.

Yeh its great being able to buy cheahp tests although DH thinks they may not work properly! I think they would more likely not work at all rather than give a positive result.
Hope all works out for you.

MiMao · 17/02/2008 09:18

Jenwa - that was with my 2nd pregnancy.

I did a test this morning (early tester) but it was neg, this happened with my last preg so I know I still could be. I guess I'll find out very soon.

I am angry with myself for wasting a test £13.99 for two!!!!

That next test will never be used until I am two days overdue at least form now on.

I cant believe I did not learn from my own experience

tedmundo · 17/02/2008 10:47

I bought 10 cheap dipstick style ones off the internet and got a positive 4 days before AF was due so they do work. I only tested so early as I woke up feeling sick. Bit of a giveaway!

jenwa · 17/02/2008 21:03

MiMao
Sorry, read your post wrong.
It is awful when you test and its neg as you get so gutted after spending that amount of money, I dont know why they have to be so expensive, prob because they know women test lots.

Fingers crossed for you though.

Nath · 19/02/2008 08:34

Hey girls - I am worried over my lack of bright lines - I was due on on Saturday and tested on Sunday with two cheap tests and got very very faint lines on both.....

I then tried a Clearblue digital and got a BFN so I then bought a FR and did one yesterday, and I got a very faint line - I did another one this morning, (I know I should wait but have zero patience with these things!) Line is as faint as yesterday, if not fainter.....but there is definately one there!!! I just think its odd, with my dd1 I tested a day or two after I was due on and had a screaming bright line in seconds.....now this and I am 3 days late.....I don't get it!

Any ideas.......?

Thanks!

I hope so - getting paranoid that maybe they are evaporation lines, but they are there after about three minutes - they don't show up that quickly do they???

Keep trying and good luck xxx
