Ovulation tests always negative

Basically the threat title says everything. I've conceived twice, the first was an early mc. Second produced DD who is now a bouncy happy 2yo. Having trouble with cysts on left ovary which I'm seeing a gynaecologist for so unsure if there is a link. But I'm basically doing ovulation tests throughout, one in the
morning and one in the evening and in the last two months I haven't had a positive one. We're trying in what I estimate to be my fertile days according to my cycle length (but that varies also between 25-31 days). Just wondering really if anyone else had had this recurring negative result and still managed to conceive?

Bump... anyone?

I rarely catch a proper positive, but I do see them getting gradually darker, then gradually lighter. Do you see this too?

I know I ovulate because I have done temperature charting in the past and seen a clear rise at around the time the ovulation tests get darker (also had blood tests one month which confirmed it). Have you tried temp charting so you have some reassurance that you are actually ovulating?

Wfhandbored · 18/04/2023 09:23

@vitahelp I think I need to do temperature charting! I'm a bit out of my depth tbh and have tried to read a few other ovulation threads but it's so much terminology and stuff that I haven't got a clue. I'll get readying on temp stuff so I can work out if I'm actually ovulating or not. Wondering if the cysts actually mean PCOS so I'll be all over the place trying to track

@Wfhandbored I would definitely give it a go. It can be a bit frustrating as you have to try and take your temp at the same time every day which isn't always practical, but even if it isn't done perfectly, it can still give a rough idea of where you're at. I just use a cheap thermometer off Amazon and it has been reliable. I'd recommend free Fertility Friend app for recording your temperatures.

Tag me in here if you need an advice on it once you start and I'll try and help xx

@vitahelp thank you so much! I have an armpit digital thermometer from Amazon. Will that do the trick do you think? I'll get the app and start tracking

I’m the same! TTC but never get any positive on a ovulation test and similarly i was pregnant then M/c then had DS so trying to baby #2

i also have cysts on my left ovary but they keep coming and going and am waiting for my gynae appt in June!

im anxious i won’t get pregnant - all i can think about is falling pregnant.

post DS i have light and scanty periods.

Wfhandbored · 18/04/2023 13:54

Hey @Optimistic66 seems like we're very much in the same boat here!! Aside from the periods. Mine are astonishingly heavy... they have always been bad but since having DD they have got so much worse.

I have a very quick peak and so if I dont test twice a day I miss it. but as pp said I can still see the rise and fall and so can estimate from that. I would also suggest testing twice in the afternoon/ evening ( I do 5 when I get home from work then just before bed) as morning testing isnt recommended.

For BBT you need a basal body temperature thermometer with 2 decimal places - yours may well do this but double check, and you place it under your tongue the second you wake up. You have to have had 4 hours uninterrupted sleep before you do it which is where I always fall down with my DD being awake in the night, but I do find I can still see the vague trend - I think it varies.
Then get the app fertility friend and you can input all your data in there and it makes a nice graph for you. also lots of tutorials on there, and while it looks REALLY old fashioned its pretty clear and easy to use.

SaltyGod · 18/04/2023 14:06

According to the ovulation test kit I didn't ovulate the month that I fell pregnant. So clearly it was inaccurate for me (I suspect I didn't test at the exact right time or day)

Temp charting was very accurate and interesting however, and I read a really fascinating book about the process (yes, really, I'm that sad) which taught me lots I didn't know.

TunnocksTCake · 18/04/2023 15:02

@SaltyGod would be intersted to know the name of the book please?

SaltyGod · 18/04/2023 15:31

It was this one:

Taking Charge Of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement and Reproductive Health amzn.eu/d/5VVCEK0

(Apologies if the link is crap)

Wfhandbored · 18/04/2023 17:44

@SaltyGod I'll be buying this thank you!

I agree with the previous posters that measuring your temperature and/or using a fertility tracking app can help you determine your most fertile days. Good luck on your journey!

This is the most of a line I've had in two months on my ovulation test but the test package says to discard this result as it means negative. I've started tracking things and ordered a thermometer. Has anyone had a line this faint before and though more of it than a negative test?

THIS is literally me this cycle - i’m on CD 19- i’ve had completely negative OPKs but finally getting a second line similar to yours - so i feel like even thought it negative my body getting ready to ovulate so i’m going to continue testing and see how it goes!

Optimistic66 · 04/05/2023 10:56

Also some cycles i never even get any kind of line so for me this feels like i must be ovulating or very close - i will attach a picture
