Today AF is officially 6 days late. It's never been this late before. Last night I did a pee stick (it said you didn't have to wait till morning and was sensitive enough from first missed day). BFN.

We have been TTC and IVFing for the best part of 10 years. I'm 35 and have always had regular cycles of more or less 28 days.

What's going on? I have no 'symptoms' of anything except slight heartburn and a few days ago a metallic taste, but I think that (the taste) was partly my imagination.

What do I do? What could this be? I am reluctant to make a GP appointment and get a blood test done only to discover before the results come in that it's just a very late AF, especially after all these years (months, really) of having my hopes dashed repeatedly.

What would you do?

The pee stick control window showed a line, but the other one stayed resolutely blank.

Help?

FarawyWe, fingers crossed for you. Do you know when you ovulated? I would say that you should do a test with morning wee. And if you can, use a digital one - so there is no ambiguity.
It certainly sounds promising, as you say that you are always regular. Not trying to suggest it is not good news, but have you had any stress this month (other than usual?) that could have delayed ovulation?

All the best.

Ready, no I haven't been tracking things like ovulation and we haven't been watching our dates for a long time now, in an attempt to break out of the obsessive counting! I just keep track of AF so as not to be caught out.

Actually I've been really relaxed this last year since starting a stress-free job and working part-time.

We have a 2.5 year old adopted LO and she's been having sleeping problems over the last couple of weeks which means I'm really tired in the evenings. Again, can't tell if it's the sleep deprivation or Something Else.

And I have a cough/cold bug that's persisting but it's getting a little bit better every day and doesn't cause much trouble...

So I don't know what to do. Should I test again? Isn't that just silly? I mean 10 years of unexplained infertility and now I'm 6 days late - I should just wait it out, right?

I would test again, first thing in the morning, and use a digital test.

Please let us know how you get on!

In this situation, 6 days late, without knowing when ovulation occured, I would test in the morning! There's no shame in thinking it might be possible - and goodness knows you ruddy well deserve it!! Fingers crossed for you. And toes.

I'm in Belgium and I wouldn't know where to find a digital test. I just went into a pharmacy and asked for a pregnancy test and they didn't offer me any options.

Perhaps tomorrow I'll try to find a different place and this time wait till the morning before using it. Assuming my period hasn't started, it should be Saturday morning then.

I just keep expecting it to start any minute. I'm swinging between worry and resignation (that it's just an extremely late period). This is not nice.

Thank you for all your support.

Did you hunt down a digital for tomorrow morning???

FarawayWe · 15/02/2008 20:26

Hi again and sorry about the long delay. I guess you guessed by now that my period started this morning. 7 days late. At least it saved me from paying for a new test. I actually made it through without crashing and burning. I'm really quite proud of myself. Usually I'm 2 or 3 days late and I'm a mess of hopes and dreams. This was a big test and I'm glad I made it through no damage done.

Thanks VERY MUCH for your support.

FarawayWe, I'm so sorry that the outcome wasn't as we all hoped for you. Don't beat yourself up about testing. I hope you are ok, and pampering yourself plenty. Take care.
