Irregular periods and TTC

Hi everyone,

we are currently TTC our second baby (into our 5th month now)
some context - I am 37 and still BF my son (nighttime only). My periods returned in October last year and since then they’ve been a bit irregular. Prior to DC1 my periods were like clockwork so this is a change for me. I am having all the right ‘signs’ of ovulation (EWCM, positive OPKs etc) but I’m worried that the irregularity of my periods, along with my age, are having an impact on conception. My cycle can be 26 days at its shortest and 35 at its longest. I know this is still in the range of a normal length cycle, but the variety each month is what concerns me really.

Any positive stories of TTC with irregular cycles?! Is it worth speaking with my GP?

TIA

I've never had a child so I'm not familiar with how long it would take for periods to normalise after birthing a child .
Im also 37 with irregular cycles but mine are due to pcos. I did manage to conceive I'm december but it didn't stick.
At 26-35 days your cycles don't seem that irregular actually

I have similar irregular cycles (26-33 days), saw GP last year as was also very fatigued and had blood tests - all normal apart from low iron. Started TTC this year, nothing yet but i have very obvious ovulation signs. I’m not testing or tracking. Maybe speak to GP after 6 months? GP said that mine were within what they consider normal.

Thanks both for responding
@MK85 yeah I know other women have much more irregular cycles, I think it’s just because this is such a change from what I was used to. Sorry to hear your pregnancy didn’t continue. Fingers crossed for you.

@Lcb123 yeah I was thinking I’d probably give it 6 months and see what the dr says!

I'd always had irregular periods. After BF my first child I didn't have a period at all - for over a year I think form memory. When trying to conceive child No2 I went to the Dr and was prescribed tablets to "bring on a period" (can't remember what they were called) I had to take a pregnancy test before taking them (even though I'd already done several) and it turned out I was pregnant.

My children are now 15 & 18
I had been ovulating without having a period apparently - so try not to worry OP. May be worth asking your GP - there are things you can take to "kick start" a regular period.
Good Luck! Flowers

Hi @Kstar321 :)

how have you been getting on? Did you go to the doctors after? I could have written this post myself and just wondered if you had any update. Thankyou x

Hello :)

I’m actually now 16 weeks pregnant. So conceived the month I wrote this. I’d have definitely spoken to the GP if I’d continued to struggle though. Fingers crossed for you xx
