Can Luteal phase vary from cycle cycle?

clvfc2c2023 · 04/04/2023 20:45

Just that really. I am 1 day overdue and I know when I ovulated. My luteal phase is usually 12 days long.

I don't want to get my hopes up as I am already 36. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old.

No pregnancy symptoms at all.

I can’t really i help but I am in the same sort of position. Not sure when I ovulated but I’m 9 days late now but had BFN, which I assume is a long luteal phase like yourself or a very delayed period

Pollywoddles · 05/04/2023 09:26

Generally no, it’s ovulation that varies, not luteal phase. How are you tracking ovulation?

Don’t worry about no symptoms, I didn’t have any either.

clvfc2c2023 · 05/04/2023 10:06

@Pollywoddles

I am tracking ovulation with clearblue advanced ovulation sticks, Internet cheapies and physical symptoms (EWCM, Mittelschmerz).

There's no point in doing the Temperatur method for me as I have to get up at least once a night for my daughter. 😊

And I think you shouldn't be moving around much to get an accurate basal Temperature reading.

Supposedly not, yet after tracking for 12 cycles using temperature charting and ovulation tests, I can say that my luteal phase has varied from 12-14 days. It is nearly always 12, but occasionally went to 13/14, I'm almost certain I calculated ovulation correctly.

I do hope in your case it is a late period and you are pregnant though.

clvfc2c2023 · 05/04/2023 10:31

@vitahelp

If my period isn't there tomorrow, I will do a test.

Just don't want to do a test right now.

It's always so disheartening when it's negative.

Yes it does. My last two cycles for example I had 14 days between ovulation and period and my last cycle was only 8 days

clvfc2c2023 · 05/04/2023 12:47

@MK85@MK85

Wow I had no idea the luteal phase could vary by 6 days between cycles . That's interesting.

My luteal phase varies by a couple of days often and more widely when I'm ill or stressed.

LolaStanley1 · 05/04/2023 20:45

How many days are your cycles girls if your luteal varies ?

MK85 · 05/04/2023 21:15

@clvfc2c2023 it varies woman to woman. Some women are like clockwork and its exactly the same and some women have long luteal phases and others short and then there's poeple like me who it varies cycle to cycle. I'm currently 7dpo this cycle. I chart bbt and haven't had a dip yet so hoping period will be another few days away yet or else a BFP 🤞

LolaStanley1 · 05/04/2023 21:50

Ooh how exciting! I hope it’s a BFP for you. I have struggled to temp this time as I still breastfeed my DS during the night so my sleep it’s so broken. All my apps now say I’m 9 days late and on CD36 but since my periods returned about 5 months ago they’ve been varying from 17-54 days.. so since I got BFN the other day gonna wait another week to retest it no AF

clvfc2c2023 · 07/04/2023 08:46

Well, my period is 4 days overdue now. I really do not feel pregnant at all.

Maybe 5 times a day I have a very gentle burning sensation in my breasts. It only lasts for two seconds though and that could just be related to my cycle.

Maybe I should test, but then I know the feeling of disappointment when the test is negative. Does anyone else feel this way? 😂

@clvfc2c2023 haha makes a change from people testing from 4dpo 😂 I'm with you I'd rather wait until the test would definitely be positive so there's no confusion or disappointment with not being sure what's going on!

I'd say I'd test if I was you! I had that burning sensation when I was pregnant before!

MK85 · 07/04/2023 19:38

@clvfc2c2023 yep I'm holding out as long as possible just to keep the dream alive a little longer

clvfc2c2023 · 08/04/2023 15:17

Well, I couldn't wait anymore so I took a test an hour ago. Pic attached. I am pregnant! 😊 I didn't test with FMU, but it shouldn't make a big difference, as I didn't drink much today. Not sure if it will be a sticky bean yet - I had an early miscarriage between my son and daughter and when I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a really strong dye stealer result. Here the test line is weaker than the control line.

@clvfc2c2023 congrats that seems like a strong line.
I'm currently dpo if I ovulated but I haven't tested. I kinda don't want to as I know I'll probably be disappointed. I'm already 37 and I think I put so much pressure on myself every month now

LolaStanley1 · 08/04/2023 17:07

Congratulations!!!

clvfc2c2023 · 08/04/2023 21:17

@MK85 don't give up hope! I am only a year younger than you.
For how long have you been trying and have you had any tests done?

My aunt had her first child at 40 after years of miscarriages.

@clvfc2c2023 Just checked back and seen your BFP! Congratulations!!

anovu · 09/04/2023 20:30

Interesting to see your experience. According to LH tests and other signs I should have ovulated on cd14. Luteal phase usually 10-13 days but now on 16dpo and no sign of AF arriving.

I had cramps around when it should have come (about 11dpo), and I was sure it was coming then, but nothing.

I have previously been alerted to pregnancy by opk tests going positive, but for the last week they have been either entirely blank or faintest of faint lines only appearing after more than 10 minutes. Normally before AF I would have stronger faint lines which would appear 3 minutes in.

I took a pregnancy test at 14dpo which was negative. Took bin out a day later and it did have another line on it, this was dark pink in colour but a very thin line and obviously well out the timeframe.

Can't figure out what is going on. If I haven't actually ovulated at all then when might AF come??! So frustrating and not sure what to do.

MK85 · 09/04/2023 23:30

@clvfc2c2023 tested today at 14dpo and negative 😢

It's been 18 years. I sought help 5 years ago and still haven't really got anywhere with nhs other than tests

suz2285 · 10/04/2023 06:18

@clvfc2c2023 congrats that's a great line! How are you feeling?

Eugh @MK85 that's so frustrating, I'd be back at the GP pushing for more tests if it's been that long! What have they said? If you're over 35 they should def be helping now and esp if it's been so many years
