Clomid at 38. Is there a point?

I was prescribed clomid last week at 38 years old. From what im reading online advice is clomid shouldn't be prescribed if a woman is over 38 years of age. It says if shes under 38 and the egg count is good 3 months would often be trialed. I'm 38 and was prescribed 6 months. DH does have morphology issues and I have pcos but we did conceive last August but only got to 17dpo before we lost it. Does anyone have any personal experience with this ? I assume they want to trial clomid first as its cheaper but at 38 can I afford to waste this year coming trialing medication? If we chose ivf we would have to fund it ourselves since nhs won't see us for another 6 months. What do you think?
