Hi any advice on how to quit smoking in preparation trying for a baby? I find it extremely difficult 😕 but would like to give up before falling pregnant?

Hey i mean everyones different wen it comes to quitting. Theres 2 approaches to this i feel .. you either reduce the amount you smoke and wean off or go cold turkey. I went cold turkey. Dont get me wrong it was horrific i think mainly as i just seen it as my thing i would go to if i was stressed. I relied on it. Obvs its a habbit too. I think i started at 9.30pm at night and went to bed super early so that i woke the next morn and mentally i had completed all them hours 🙃 i also read a line on how quitting is acutally 1percent physical and 99 percent mental. I think it helped me realise that once the nicotine was out of my system and lets face it that is relatively quickly that it was my brain then battling with me. My friend found the book by allen carr really good. Find stuff to occupy ur mouth loads of chewing gum jeez found i was even biting a pen lid at one stage! You will go thru a wide range of emotions too. And rely on others for support! I think even the fact you are thinkin about quitting is a great start and then i think your reasoning behind it will be the main help! Wow ive wrote an essay lolll sorry

Have you thought about using patches? I found these quite effective when I first quit. I did eventually end up smoking again way down the line but as soon as I fell pregnant that was all the motivation I needed to quit cold turkey. It was very difficult though and it was all I thought about for pretty much my whole pregnancy. The cravings were strong for a good few months but they eventually dwindled away. I've been stopped for nearly 4 years now and don't think about it at all anymore.

It's good that you want to try and stop before you get pregnant because at least you have the option of using NRT. Good luck to you.
