Pcos. Clearblue Ovulation smiley on first day?

Krissyxoxo · 26/03/2023 23:09

My other ovulation test today by different brand was negative. Today I got my clearblue sticks, decided to use them as I know I haven't ovulated as all other tests are negative. I use other brand tests and take my basal temp. I'm new to use the clearblue so thought I'll use this month to try and get familiar with the tests. However today I did my first test , first 2 had an error with a book , what a waste and 3rd one worked fine flashy stick then went to a steady smiley face which indicated peak. Its the 4 days one i got. I'm confused why I got a smiley face on the first test? I'm currently on cycle day 21 but I do have pcos and ovulate anywhere between day 18 to as long as 30s , one month 40s. I've never had an issue with my other brand ovulation tests. Easy at home and one step. How trust worthing are the clearblie for pcos ? I'm assuming now I've had a smiley I can no longer use the digital reader. I feel like it's been a complete waste of £20

I have pcos aswell, I tried clear blue ovulation tests and they are a waste of money! Had errors show on mine to. Iv had no issues with the cheaper strip tests, bulk buy on Amazon, get like 50 tests for under a tener! As a fellow pcos'er our cycles are so unpredictable so start testing from around day 12. Hope this helps

lottieb92 · 28/03/2023 21:05

I’ve had similar today. Not sure if it’ll help but here goes. Also recently diagnosed PCOS (I have used ovulation tests for a long time before I knew I had PCOS though!)

I have used the clearblue 2 day and they worked just fine.

The 4 day are new to me this cycle. I have 30 day cycles so I started testing day 13 as it said to..

CD13 got a big O … made sense
CD14 tested today … flashing smile 😀
technically, I should get the same until CD16 where I hope to get peak!

I believe you can test with them the next cycle? But is it something like… not for 48 hrs!?! If I’m wrong I’ll be pissed because I got a big pack for £49 hahaha

However, the tests to me look nothing like a high/peak compared to my internet cheapies.
I inserted picture it was flashing smile I just managed to catch him stood still lol.

They have been working for me … except for my ability to get pregnant lol. But usually my predictions/apps/periods all line up ❤️
Just hoping for that BFP 🤞🏻

Hi , I had a similar experience as starting using the clearblue late in my cycle. I found the clearblue picked up the surge earlier than my cheap tests ( I use Easy @ home) I got my smiley face on the clearblue that evening around 4pm but my easy at home from same time and urine was 'low' . I tested again using easy around 11pm and it was positive so I think the clearblue just detected the subtle rise soon. They do have different sensitivities. I'd really recommend testing more than once a day if you suspect you might be ovulating or if you get a test that your unsure about as the surge can happen really fast, within a few hours from the last time you tested.

Honestly there seem to be mixed reviews online but in my experience, no , I don't believe you can use the same digital reader every month . Annoying as they are expensive per month ,

MK85 · 29/03/2023 13:42

@lottieb92 I don't think you can use them more than once. I've seen people on amazon saying you can re use them but I certainly haven't been able to. If I put in another new stick it displays a flashing smiley with a 📖 symbol indicating an error. It seems to know its already been used 😕

lottieb92 · 29/03/2023 14:13

@MK85 wow
well I’ll have so many sticks and not a working machine! 🤡🤞🏻
I read that once you get Peak static smile - it stays for 48hrs and you can stop testing until next month!

I guess I’ll find out 🥲

I would say though if you’ve only used twice and it’s faulty tempting to take it back! Seems such a waste 💀

MK85 · 29/03/2023 14:21

@lottieb92 yeah the smiley face stays on your screen for 2 days then switches off. I tried it this morning just to see if it still works or not to know if I needed to buy a new one for next month but it just didnt work. I wish they would just sell a pack of the sticks so we don't need to keep buying the digital reader every month too . I paid nearly £40 and only used 3 of them . Currently 4dpo. Keep me updated if yours works. Perhaps I have a faulty one.

lottieb92 · 29/03/2023 14:26

@MK85 wow if anything just a waste of plastic! I will keep you updated! Seems so bizarre, but If I had known I wouldn’t have bothered I certainly used the Pink non advanced reader more than one cycle

fool on me I guess 🙈 I’ve used 4/20 sticks!! And I was luckily I had a voucher so paid £39 instead of £49! And I am due to ovulate in two days haha

I mean if I get my BFP I’ll let the money slide! 😝

lottieb92 · 29/03/2023 21:43

@MK85 the plot thickens I just got a static smile!?

so I guess I will be able to test the theory after it’s left my screen what’s still odd is that my cheap OPKs are still super low 🙈

Also PCOS sufferer here - my consultant told me not to bother with ov tests as PCOS can cause a second LH surge later in the cycle and so throw out the results. If you are going to use them, i'd def say stick to the cheapie ones.

lottieb92 · 29/03/2023 21:53

@YorkshireTeaCup wise consultant… defo think I wasted my time with these CB!

I used ovulation sticks for over a year before I found out I even had pcos 🙈 and they always worked for me aside from never getting pregnant… but this months lunch break / rushed purchase has officially bitten me on the ass

Luckily I think I’ll be able to cover these next few days DTD and then I’ll step away from the CB 😝

MK85 · 29/03/2023 23:06

@lottieb92 I think the cheap ones are just as reliable anyway. The clearblue just seems to be able to detect the rise slightly earlier in the day for me.
@YorkshireTeaCup have you had second surges ? I've been lucky enough to not experience any second surges. I've found ovulation tests to be really reliable for me. I think it depends on the individual. For some pcos sufferers they work and for others they don't. From what im reading from other non pcos womens posts, they can experience a second surge aswell. I think if you don't ovulate properly the first time sometimes the body can try to go at it again

It was a while ago now and we moved onto letrozole + monitoring, so i didn't need the ov tests as i was being scanned every two days. But i def remember getting multiple static smileys in a cycle and mentioning it to my consultant, which is when she said about the second surges and to save my money 😅

lottieb92 · 29/03/2023 23:15

@MK85 I think it might have picked it up early… so to continue my experiment I’ll keep the cheapies up to see if I get a rise in the next day/two days!

I jumped back on the thread.. because after I scratched my head at my smiley face and prepared to DTD, I went for a shower and had lots of EWCM…. Overshare sorry but nice to see a correlation!
I’ve been TTC for SOOO long and this is my weirdest cycle yet. Anyway I’m just glad it’s nearly the end of fertile window and I can go about my evenings without interpreting darn ovulation sticks lol

thanks for all your help though! Got the stick through it. And to answer above my OPKs usually spot on and never had a second surge. This month clearly just decided to do two lots of testing brands to confuse the crap out of myself, So hopefully I’m just early on the pounce this month 🤭

lottieb92 · 29/03/2023 23:19

@YorkshireTeaCup my gp also told me to skip the plastic and just DTD every other day .. this was last September

I was exhausted at that prospect back then yet here I am .. naughty patient 🙈😖

Eatentoomanyroses · 29/03/2023 23:23

Clear blue ovulation sticks are very accurate but you have to use them correctly. I have got pregnant lots of times ( 6 miscarriages, 2 babies) using these just having sex once on the correct day, You have to do one test per day at the same time each day. If you test twice in one day it knocks the whole thing out and never picks up ovulation.

I hear you. We are currently trying for #2 and with a toddler as well, there is no way that it is happening every other day. I think we are both a bit more relaxed about it this time around.

MK85 · 30/03/2023 00:41

The only time I ever conceived in all these years of trying was the one cycle I actually had stretchy ewcm at ovulation. It was the first time I had ever experienced that and It came on like a flood and I thought I'd pissed myself 😆
Apparently without it the egg find it difficult to swim and survive. I didn't have it at all last cycle but this month I had lots of increase in cm but it wasn't stretchy like that time but I'm hoping its still a good sign .

MK85 · 30/03/2023 19:51

@lottieb92 I think you can definitely re use the digital reader again next cycle. I did a bit of digging around and alot of people are saying you can so then I came to the conclusion mine must be faulty. When I tried to insert a new stick it just kept giving me an error and wouldn't work but then I kept ejecting it and re inserting it a few times and I think it seemed to reset . Did the test to check it and it's coming up no face now

lottieb92 · 30/03/2023 20:36

@MK85 oh I’m glad!! I had hope it was reusable, I had one test come back faulty but I flooded it 🤭
so I still have 15 sticks left I believe… obviously hoping I don’t need them lol!

I am still confused as my Premom isn’t coming back high / peak but clear blue gave me the static! 😅
so just going to keep dtd unless I run out of steam!

birdywillow · 30/03/2023 20:42

I have PCOS, I never had any luck using ovulation tests. I never had a single test that said I was ovulating, I gave up using them after a while because it was getting frustrating. My daughter is now 9 months old and currently refusing to go to sleep, so have hope.

lottieb92 · 30/03/2023 21:59

@birdywillow 🤞🏻Love this thanks for the confidence it helps so much when you’re late night wondering if it will ever happen!!

and belated congrats hope she settles soon haha!

birdywillow · 30/03/2023 22:36

@lottieb92 she's fast asleep now at last 😆 yes I was starting to worry I'd have to go to the gp and ask for help and then I got pregnant, so it can happen, stay hopeful, fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

MK85 · 30/03/2023 22:54

How often are you testing? I admittedly go overboard on the testing once I think I'm close doing 3 or 4 a day 😆 if I think my line is starting to look darker or its above 0.5 I'll do 1 or 2 a day as I've noticed I usually ovulate a day after it rises above that and then when I see a high I do it 3 times just to catch the peak . For me anyway i have just one day of high then my peak day and then it's gone . I know some women get highs for days and others barely catch a high. I wish i was one of those who ovulate same time every month. So fustrating not being able to pinpoint it.

lottieb92 · 30/03/2023 23:30

2/3 times testing on Premom also! I usually also only get 2 highs over one day.. one peak then immediate drop!
my testing was never this bad before usually it was just once mid AM and once PM … recently a LOT more as I’m keen to try and pinpoint it as best I can since I am on new supplements and routine for pcos! I was hoping it might mix things up and it seems it has, but not sure for The best lol 😖

GP told me that’s why every other day for the whole month or even every 2 days… she was clearly barking that’s close to 12 times for me as I am 30 day cycler 🤣
