Less than 1% Sperm Morphology ..

So we have been TTC since 2021 and recently started our journey into investigating why it's not happening. So far everything looks ok for me but my partners swimmers have less than 1% normal morphology but all other factors are ok. Has anyone else been in this position and managed to improve the sperm quality and conceive naturally ? Feels like right now we are headed towards IVF and I've no idea how we will even afford that if it comes to it.

We have 3% morphology, other factors are ok (but on the low side of normal). I’ve had 3 chemicals in 4 cycles so we can conceive naturally! DH was told by the place he did the sample that low morphology can cause early miscarriage but I haven’t researched that at all.
I’m not sure how much difference there’d be between 3% and 1%. But it only takes one good swimmer 😀

Yes it's entirely possible. We were on the list to see the fertility clinic as gp and gynae told us it wouldn't be impossible naturally but out chances would be lower than average and might take longer. I had a chemical In December so obviously his swimmers reached the egg

Timpani · 27/03/2023 21:54

Yes.

My DH has a v. low count in every way. Less than 1 million/ml and of those, less than 1% morphology, and v. poor motility. I had managed a chemical pregnancy before knowing this after 4 months trying.

We had IVF and has DC1 from first cycle. Worked first time.

DC1 was 15 months old still BF a lot. I had only had 2 periods. I got pregnant naturally despite all that.

She's now a huge nine year old.

I do remember being told that morphology is the least important parameter to measure. Count and motility are most important. If lots can get there, one can get in.

Has your partner tried any supplements? My DH had poor scores all round but saw an improvement after taking Proceive max strength tablets for 3 months. They are expensive but cheaper than ivf.

Yes I have him on a few supplements including Proceive so hope it for a natural pregnancy before we get to IVF but not willing to give it more than another few months or I think I might go mad with them i they disappoints

Hi everyone can I join please? I've been ttc #2 for almost 18 months & although it took almost 2 years to conceive my first we were told unexplained infertility after having all the tests. We were very lucky & got pregnant naturally. Now ttc #2 isn't happening & down the route of tests again my partner has just been told poor morphology from his sample. We haven't seen a doctor yet or had anything explained. Any recommendations on supplements he can take please? He needs to do another sample in 70 days which feels like forever. Also my bloods came back 'borderline' for my thyroid so they are being done again soon. Hopefully these are both fixable I just feel like this may never happen for us & everything takes so long. Nice to talk to others who can relate.

Hi, just wanted to share my story in regards to bad sperm, my husband has had sperm across the board in every catergory.
I got pregnant in 2017 and miscarried at 6 weeks, we tried again for a year, then found out about his sperm. Had ICSI and had our little boy in 2019
I got pregnant again naturally but had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks in 2020
I'm currently 4 four weeks pregnant naturally.
We got told our chances of conceiving naturally are less than 1% and we've done it three times, two ended sadly in miscarriages but I'm hoping this one sticks.
We've done nothing differently to improve his sperm, a 1% chance is still a chance 🤷🏼‍♀️

Rayofsunshine22 · 18/04/2023 22:27

@DaisyMay25 thank you for sharing. So sorry for your different times & losses. I pray this one sticks for you 🤞
It's good to know it can still happen with the 1% chance. We are doing what we can now to improve sperm quality & praying that we get lucky 🤞

@LizzeyBenett wow that's amazing! Such good news. Can I ask was it 1 or several vitamins that he got all those supplements?
My OH was told poor morphology & he's due to retest this month.

All separate so there's quiet a bit to take but seems to have worked so definitely worth it

I should mention as well the other thing he did which probably made a big difference was cut down on his coffee he was drinking A LOT of coffee and has cut it down to one or two now a day and anything else is decaf.

We had 1% morphology and a year later it was back up to 4%. He didn't really change anything tbh, sometimes it can just be a off result and they did tell us that! If your partner has hot baths often, maybe cut them out. That's the only thing that could have improved my partners but again, could just be a one off result so definitely get retested in a few months. Xx

peachesandsweets · 13/06/2023 16:04

My husband had low morphology but I'm pretty sure that it was a bad day for him! He took wellman vitamins, wore looser boxers, stopped putting laptops on his lap and we conceived our DD in 2021. I'm now pregnant again!

Rayofsunshine22 · 13/06/2023 22:26

Thanks everyone lots of positive advice! My OH has loads of coffee too! If it was down to me I'd be taking all those vitamins but he doesn't even take the proceive every day. He's a nightmare although he's happy to try for another baby he really doesn't do anything to help which is obviously very hard. He has 2 older ones from a previous relationship so I guess it's not the same for him. Anyway I just have to see what happens. Getting him to go for another sample test will also be a miracle. I'm due period any day now but hoping on a miracle 🤞

Hi, so just to follow up. Were you able to conceive naturally. (I hope you did). You answer would be really helpful here.

That’s great to hear…congratulations. Very happy to hear this. Also, gives hope to conceive naturally if morphology is low and other factors of SA are normal. Good luck.
