Hello

I am looking for peoples experiences of progesterone. I'm on Cyclogest 800mg a day - I am to test 11 days post 5 Day transfer not sure if my period would arrive before this is it was unsuccessful or if the bleed would begin after the pessaries where stopped? I usually have a 12 day LF when naturally trying.
What have anyone's experiences been?

I also wondered if anyone else had felt increasingly unwell and headaches the longer on the progesterone? I don't think my body likes it very much!

Thank you for any experiences shared :)

Hey, So I can't answer about whether you'd get a period whilst still on the progesterone as this is only my second time doing ivf and the first time we got pregnant. But I can definitely say that the progesterone is not agreeing with me either, very headachy and bleurgh generally. I do find drinking lots of water (and I mean like 4litres worth) makes me feel much better - maybe try upping your fluid levels?

@SpringtimeGirl hiya, I’ve had 3 transfers (1 pregnancy and 2 failed implantation) and my period came while still taking progestrone on both failed transfers. It was only light spotting but deffo period, it didn’t get heavier until I stopped taking them fully, period came within a day or so of stopping. Good luck on your journey x

Thank you, sorry to hear of your 2 failed ones but great news on the pregnancy! The wait to test is awful. Much harder then when TTC naturally I've found. X

Im currently on progesterone and I've just finished my day 14 (2days ago) I'm also 4days late now but have been getting cramps for the past week. I had really pale spotting a week ago for a couple of hours, I haven't taken a pregnancy test yet as I've read progesterone can delay your period?
So was planning on waiting until the weekend to see if my period turns up.
Woke up feeling very sicky this morning and have had non stop headaches for the past week

SH998 · 23/03/2023 09:55

@Hollsy36 you should really take a test to see if its positive, if its positive your clinic should have advised you to continue with the progesterone until I think its 12 weeks into the pregnancy. The spotting a week ago could have been implantation. Good luck :)

Im so nervous to test in case it's a negative but you're right for sure 😊
I will pluck up the courage and test this evening ❤️ thank you

SH998 · 23/03/2023 10:24

@Hollsy36 I know that feeling so I really sympathise, if your unsure on testing maybe just continue with the progesterone until you get the courage to test, I really wouldn't stop taking them until your sure of the results :) x

Hollsy36 · 23/03/2023 10:37

I never thought of that, my dr told me if I'm positive then I've got to stay on them so maybe I'll start them up again until I know. Thank you 😊

SH998 · 23/03/2023 10:54

@Hollsy36 good luck for later, I hope you get your BFP :) X

MrsT36 · 23/03/2023 11:00

@Hollsy36 have you had a frozen IVF transfer? If so your body won’t produce the progesterone it normally would to support the pregnancy as you’ve not got an egg follicle that the now fertilised egg came from.
you could lose a perfectly healthy pregnancy if that’s the case so you really need to test asap and get more progesterone from your doctor today if it’s positive.
I don’t mean to sound dramatic but if you’ve gone beyond your official test day without testing and stopped meds it’s an incredibly big risk to take.
@SpringtimeGirl progesterone always held my period off, even with my 2 early losses. I think it does vary for everyone. Would agree it bloats you and makes you feel super gross! What’s your official test day? Xxx

No, not ivf. I've had 13 previous miscarriages and then finally got referred to a fertility dr who did some tests and found I'm extremely low on vitamin D3 and also prescribed the progesterone to take from ovulation for 14days then stop to see if I bleed or become pregnant. If I'm not pregnant then I have to repeat it again the following month and so on. He didn't mention though that it could possibly delay period. I know if I'm pregnant I have to then start taking it again for 3 months

SpringtimeGirl · 23/03/2023 20:29

It was today and was negative. Pretty down about it but trying to focus on next round and I got some additional supplement advice so I have more stuff to take between rounds that will hopefully help.
No sign of bleeding yet, at least I know for my next try that progesterone does the job. X

@SpringtimeGirl so sorry to hear your results, it really is heartbreaking. Is this your first try? I'm waiting to start my 4th transfer, 1 ended in miscarriage and 2 failed to implant. Unfortunately, it doesn't get any easier, your never prepared for that negative result. Hope your next round is successful :) x
