Pulling out?

DH thinks pulling out is failsafe, despite me telling him otherwise.

I'm quite relaxed about any surprises, but always thought this was quite a silly teenage approach to contraception.

But we do have one DC, and after realising how hard it actually is to conceive(!) I wondered how true this was?

Does pulling out work most of the time? How common is it to get pregnant after pulling out?

Normally I do also time my cycle, but I know we DTD this month at time of ovulation, though he did pull out.

You'll have 2 DC soon

I mean I wouldn't advocate for it because I don't want to be responsible if you fall accidentally pregnant but it worked for 7 years for us, I do now have two kids but we tried for them Grin

Your husband is daft, I wouldn't want to produce with those genes.

Twoinapod · 11/03/2023 12:04

I know several people who tried pull out method, they all now use other contraception and have at least one surprise baby 😂😂 I also know several people who got pregnant while on the pill.

Onemyownhere · 11/03/2023 12:07

Well pulling out isn't a source of contraception

PauliesWalnuts · 11/03/2023 12:13

The three girls I went to school with all got pregnant this way - one did twice. Failsafe my arse.

Emmamoo89 · 11/03/2023 12:25

I did this when around ovulation and didn't fall pregnant. It doesn't always go like that tho.

whosaidtha · 11/03/2023 12:38

If used 100% correctly 100% of the time it's very reliable. The problem is that people very rarely use it correctly all the time. That's up to your husband. We have used this method for 10 years. 3 planned babies and no surprises.

beachmum1 · 11/03/2023 12:41

We've used this method for 8 years knowing if it didn't work it would be ok, only pregnancies have been planned

DemBonesDemBones · 11/03/2023 12:58

It's worked for us for 7 years.

Scalessayeek · 11/03/2023 13:05

So pulling out method has a low success rate. If he has climaxed within the last 48 hours there is also a chance of sperm still being inside him and then entering you in his pre-cum.

We were having sex around my ovulation and that worked well but we also knew we would be having another child at some point. Now my cycles are all over the place and I know hubby does not want another we’re basically abstaining 🤣🤣🤣 It’s the only 100% risk free thing. (Until he finally gets round to a vasectomy 🥴)

It's ok if you are ok with getting pregnant. We did it for a while as timing wasn't perfect but would have still been happy if it had happened. However used condoms on fertile days..
