Spotting throughout cycle

Hi all,

I am ttc but am struggling with spotting throughout my cycle. I consistently spot in the lead up to my period which my GP suggested might be to do with low progesterone but I also experience sporadic in the first half of my cycle. All my blood tests have come back clear.

Has any experienced this? Particularly interested in how to explain the sporadic spotting in the first half of my cycle.

I have been off birth control for 2 years so I don’t think it is related to that. My GP has advised that I just “monitor it” but this has been ongoing for over a year and i’d rather be proactive if there are things that can be done to support it.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you!

I have spotting from CD24 ish sometimes only for 2 days sometimes until period shows up at CD29 ish.

I spoke to docs and have 21 day test this month but I know I have cervical ectophy which others on here have said can cause that type of bleeding. I have been off the pill also for a few years.

I'm hoping it won't be low progesterone for me, I've had 1 successful pregnancy but I am 3 years older now so not sure if that's a factor but never had this before DC1

I know progesterone cream can help extend the luteal phase.. can you try and use it one cycle from 3dpo and see if it stops the spotting? I got some from I.herb and it came within a week and was less than £20

I also have spotting from about 4-7 days before my period, it will sometimes come then disappear for a few days, then come back again! Sometimes also after sex but only ever in the luteal phase.

I also have a cervical ectropion @Tryingtoconceivenumber2 and am wondering if I would still get the pre AF spotting ever if I was pregnant. Am currently 7dpo and small dot of pink spotting started today.

If this isn't my cycle then I will try and get a progesterone test to see if it's that and not the ectropion! Really hope it's the latter as don't think that affects TTC.

@Emi88 you could ask GP about whether it could be a cervical ectropian. They are quite common and very normal I think :)

@Piglet34 thanks for sharing sounds really similar to mine. I also wonder if I would still get it if I was pregnant. However I did have spotting at the start of my first pregnancy which I thought was AF but it wasn't. Had a full term healthy pregnancy. Spotting lasted about 5 days.

Assuming I didn't have the ectophy then but no real way of knowing. I very occasionally bleed after sex as well with it as will buy totally depends on the position for me (sorry TMI).

Piglet34 · 09/03/2023 14:17

@Tryingtoconceivenumber2 that's interesting to know :) yeah I guess there's nothing we can do but wait and see but every time it comes it just makes me feel I'm out although no way to truly know until AF day.

Yes also depends on position for me 🤣 sometimes it is a lot and bright red but then goes again straight after and I never know whether to count that as CD1 or wait until AF starts up again 🤔 good luck on your journey x

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 09/03/2023 14:26

@Piglet34 yes it's good to find others going through same. Doc told me to count first day of full flow as day 1. I have found ovulation sticks helpful to confirm when I'm ovulating.

I am the same and some months have wondered if it's implantation bleeding etc x

I used to have spotting from about 5po and it stopped when I had a laparoscopy/laser for Endometriosis? My symptoms were painful, heavy periods, pain in my legs when I was on my period, ovulation pain and sometimes pain when having sex. I hope you get it sorted!

Piglet34 · 10/03/2023 09:01

@Iamneverfull yeah my worry is it might be cause by endo as I used to have quite a few symptoms for that about 6 years ago and doctor briefly mentioned it but didn't refer as not TTC then. I don't have any symptoms anymore though apart from the spotting so wondered if it cleared up.. annoying it's such a long process to get a diagnosis. Glad that the surgery sorted it for you! X

Hope you all don't mind me jumping on this post! I've just had a day 21 blood test and my progesterone was low. Going to try and raise it with diet bit looking for any other suggestions? @TTC0123 I saw the cream from iHerb when googling how have you got on with it?

Hello! I actually fell pregnant the month I started using it I’m now 14 weeks pregnant! I don’t know if it was all a coincidence as I did so many other things that cycle but yeah it’s a lovely cream! I stopped using at 12 weeks x

Aww congratulations lovely 🤗 And thank you for replying. I will give it a go if my progesterone remains low x

@TTC0123 Sorry which cream did you get? Just looking at the iherb site and there's loads. Thanks
