Background: I’ve always had slightly irregular cycles, up to 37 days. A bit all over the place. I have 2 DC conceived naturally and BFd both to toddlers which delayed my cycles returning massively. With DD1 it didn’t reappear until 14mo and then I was pregnant by the time she was 20months.

So - to my question. DC2 is 18m and I’ve had no sign of my period returning. I’m thinking of speaking to gp about it but a bit of googling indicates it’s on the late side of normal? She bfs 2 times a day and not overnight.

DH and I don’t use contraception at the moment as we feel we’d like another. I have no cycles to know if I’m late or not. How often would you test or would you just leave it? Can you even get pregnant before your first period after bfing? I have tested once last week but realised afterwards it was a year out of date. Would it still work? Can’t afford to be testing every 2 weeks not knowing whether my period is late!

is it unlikely anyway?! So many questions sorry.

That's interesting that your period is not back and you only bf twice a day.... I would definitely consult your doctor.
I read that technically you can ovulate couple weeks before your first period comes. I would definitely wait for my period to return as that's easier to track.

i think I will make an appointment. I was a bit concerned when it hadn’t made an appearance by about 15months but some
sites like La Leche Legue say between 6-18months. She’s coming up to 18months now.

I will speak to gp but they are historically not
great when it comes to breastfeeding stuff!

I had a phone app with my gp and she said she’s not at all concerned about no period in 18months when breastfeeding, even infrequently. It would only be investigated if it didn’t reappear 3 months after stopping or so. So I guess I’ll just wait and see! I still can’t get my head round the fact I technically could fall pregnant before getting any periods and possibly wouldn’t know for ages … but I suppose that’s unlikely !

Why not buy a box of cheap urine dip pregnancy tests & test every couple of weeks? £4 for 20 dip tests in savers
