When should we be DTD based on ovulation?

Hello, I've been using ovulation sticks and wondering if anyone can advise for next month anything I should do differently:

27 Feb - DTD, did not check ovulation stick

28 Feb - ovulation stick negative

1 Mar - DTD, ovulation stick looked likely positive but wasn't darker than the control line

2 Mar - ovulation stick positive the test line was darker than control line

3 Mar - ovulation stick is negative, will DTD tonight

Sperm lives for 5 days so anything up to and including the day of ovulation has a chance.

So that also means your partner should have ejaculated within the previous 5 days before 26 feb for the intercourse on that day to have counted. Within 3 days ideally.

OK so is there not much point tonight?

Why not give it a go?

Don't stop having sex for fun anyway

Every 48 hours is apparently optimal

So a positive is when the test line is darker or as dark as the control line. Your peak is the darkest test line before they start going lighter again and you ovulate around 24 hours after your peak. So sounds like you would have ovulated today. So you want to be DTD on peak day so there’s sperm there to meet the egg, but as long as you’re doing it regularly around your fertile period you should be good. Once you start seeing the test get darker it’s helpful to test a few times a day so you can spot your peaks easier.

id highly recommend using the premom app as it shows you clearly where your peaks are. I’ve put a photo of mine on as an example so you can see it makes it much easier.

Maybe Baby app... it's the best

@Twoinapod wow thank you that is so helpful! This is the first month we have ever TTC so this is all brand new to me. Would the peak day for me be today then?

@User19221 your peak would likely have been yesterday if you had a negative test today. You likely have ovulated today but eggs last for 24 hours so there’s no harm in DTD again today to give the best chance. It all seems confusing at first but is easy once you get your head around it. I’d also recommend decent ovulation strips. I used pound shop ones to start and even the control line wasn’t very dark. I bought some easy@home ones which work with the premom app and they were so much easier.
