Hi I am new to this and it's my first post.

I am 30yo. Me and my husband have been doing withdrawal method for 5+ years now I have always been told it was not reliable but it has been for me so far. We have had the odd accident over the years but I have never fallen pregnant. I am thankful it has been effective for me but should I be concerned that I never got pregnant too? I am now ttc from this year so it has not been too long only couple months and I keep track of ovulation with sticks and calender. I wonder how long do I have to keep trying until I have to go to the Dr's about it? Any advice and tips would be great sorry if I come across naive I just don't have anyone to talk to about this. Thanks 😊

Go to the Dr's if I don't fall pregnant**

The doctor won't want to see you until you've been trying for a year or more.

We started our tests (had the pot for my partner to provide a sperm sample) at around month 14 of trying (age 35) and we got the positive pregnancy test before we had time to return it! So I wouldn't worry too much. We had a healthy baby after just over a year of trying. And we were using condoms before ttc so there was no chemical reason it took a while.

My partner used to have a pint or two daily and he did switch entirely to alcohol free beer in the months before it finally worked so I have always wondered if that may have made the difference.

Just because you’ve not fallen doesn’t mean that you won’t!

timing has to be right for it to happen, there’s only a window of roughly 5-7 days a month you can actually conceive, so there’s only 12 weeks in the year you could conceive and if you’ve never had fully unprotected sex in those windows then it’s totally realistic you haven’t got pregnant. Throw in months where you’re poorly or perhaps you’ve not ovulated (totally normal) occasionally or your partner has been unwell or maybe you’ve just not had a lot of sex that month etc - and your actual chances of pregnancy go quite low.

If you’re not tracking ovulation you could just start there, have plenty of sex around the time you expect to ovulate or just do it every couple of days through the month. Take folic acid. If nothing happens after a few months maybe consider taking your temperature to confirm ovulation.

good luck!

Try not to worry! We did withdrawal for 2 years and it never happened and we weren’t overly careful so I was anxious like you! I fell pregnant first cycle trying, did end in mc but beside the point! I then got pregnant again 3 cycles later so fell twice out of the four cycles I tried. Seems like he was just good at pulling out 🤣
