Getting ready to TTC

My husband and I are now in alignment about starting to TTC. I’ve not been on any contraception for 3 years but have been actively avoiding fertile days.

I’m 37 and my husband 40 so time not on our side. I just got some vitamins today and will order some ovulation tests. I’ve got regular-ish cycles and do believe I ovulate during the cycle by symptoms etc.

This all feels a bit mental and I’m overwhelmed but excited- what do you wish you’d known before starting to TTC?

Side note: got some Pregnacare vitamins but realised I got the actual pregnancy ones versus contraception- any difference?! Seems all have the same levels of folic acid in them.

That it can take many months, I wish someone had told me that even though you think you dtd at the right time some months us just doesn't happen 🤷🏻‍♀️also once you start trying everything will become a "is that a pregnancy sign" and you will drive yourself mad 😂 good luck though and this forum is very supportive along the way 😁

Pregnancy vitamins most likely lower in vitamin A. You need vitamin A when TTC.

I first got pregnant at 41.

I would:
Make sure you (both) have a regular exercise routine - much easier to keep up or adjust existing habits
Do pelvic floor exercises!
Plan lots of fun stuff, don't get consumed by TTC. That includes sex for fun outside your fertile window
Enjoy sushi, rare steak, wine tasting while you can, but then cut down on booze.
Go on a fun holiday that you wouldn't be able to do while pregnant/with a baby.
If you need to remortgage, sort it now.
Is your DH taking supplements too?
Obv stop smoking if either of you does.

Thank you @Whataretheodds and @sarahc336 in my head I’m prepared for a long slog to get pregnant but I guess we just don’t know. I’ll get the husband on supplements too!

We both exercise fairly regularly- not gym goers but work out at home and walk. Probably both could do with losing a few pounds between us though!

Thanks re vitamin A- going to add some of that in too!
