Pausing TTC to avoid Christmas birthday

Hi all,

recently started TTC DC2. Part of me wonders whether to pause TTC after this cycle so the baby would not have a birthday around Christmas…I know this is probably ridiculous but just wondering if anyone else feels this way? Realistically don’t think we will pause as it would
be a shame to miss a chance but it’s been on my mind 😂

I think a Christmas birthday would be nicer than a depressing January birthday personally - everyone’s in a good mood in December.

AfterGlow87 · 13/02/2023 21:21

I’ve seen this comment about stopping TTC bandied about a few times and I find it so odd tbh 🙈 What does a Christmas birthday matter? After needing IVF for my first baby and he arrived 7 weeks early anyway, I would be so grateful for a healthy baby whatever the time of year!

jamsandwich1 · 13/02/2023 21:22

My first was born v close to Christmas. I don’t mind it and it hasn’t bothered him in the slightest. Does make December a bit more expensive though!

38andtrying · 13/02/2023 21:22

I wish I had that luxurious worry lol but then again I'm 38 so no time to waste for me. I think do what you're comfortable with, I personally don't think it would concern me no matter age I was but each to their own

EverlastingRose · 13/02/2023 21:24

Obviously do it if you want but I don’t really understand it at all. Bear in mind your baby might be early or late so it’s quite a long time to stop.

GrinAndVomit · 13/02/2023 21:25

My first was due on Boxing Day. She ended up coming just after new years.
We’d actually put off trying to conceive for the exact same reason but she had other ideas!
It’s actually been amazing having her birthday during that period.
Family are always keen to get together. All the kids are exited. We make so many plans and memories.
It would have been my worst nightmare if you’d asked me before but it is actually really beautiful to have another celebration during the Christmas break.

Humphplumf · 13/02/2023 21:25

Christmas birthday is probably fine. January birthday is way worse. But then babies arrive when they want to, so unless you avoid all of December January and February you might end up with a bad birthday anyway.
I have an early January birthday and I won’t lie. It properly sucks and it’s every year as well. It’s not like one bad year but the next will be better. It’s always January, and always no one had any money or wants to do anything.
But, it’s just a birthday. There is more to life than a birthday celebration.

Emmamoo89 · 13/02/2023 21:27

I would love a Christmas baby 🥰

Sleepingallday · 13/02/2023 21:29

Very true about people being in a good mood around Christmas anyway and wanting family gatherings. I’m late Nov and actually like having a birthday around then when there’s a bit of festive cheer in the air. I think Christmas Day itself wouldn’t be much fun but again you never know how it may turn out! Thanks for setting me straight all 😂 we won’t be pausing then, good luck to any others TTC xx

Do whatever you think is best, personally I'd be fine with a Christmas baby but would try to avoid an august baby.

Lcb123 · 13/02/2023 21:31

I wouldn’t bother try to control the utterly uncontrollable- all birthdays have pros and cons.

I think it's more thinking of the child not having a birthday so close to christmas, rather than the parent not liking it.

gold22 · 13/02/2023 21:34

My first has a birthday really close to Christmas, given a choice I would change it and if I were to have another, I would avoid ttc in March

Hoppinggreen · 13/02/2023 21:35

I’ve got 2 Xmas babies. It’s never been a problem

Whatever the reason, I still think it’s silly. Having a child’s birthday close to Christmas is not the end of the world, more like first world problem. Anyway good luck with whatever you decide OP

I had a c section booked for 1st September to try and too Dts into the school year they should have been in. They were due in October, turned up end of July.

I would just go with it, and wouldn't delay there are issues with all birthdays!

drpet49 · 13/02/2023 21:47

I would. Two friends have December birthdays and they hate it.

OrionsAccessory · 13/02/2023 21:57

My 8 year old has a Christmas birthday and the biggest problem we’ve had with it so far is adults telling her how awful it must be to have a birthday in December.
I know a lot of people do dislike having their birthday close to Christmas and maybe my DD will be one of them one day but for now she likes being the only person in our family who has a Christmas tree up on their birthday and we haven’t had any issues with friends not being able to come to her bday party (which was something I was worried about while I was pregnant)

so given a choice you would have had a different baby?

really?

thats very unlikely to be true

Not agreeing with it, just explaining by the way. My own child was born less than a month from Christmas!

I have several friends, and one child, with Jan / early Feb birthdays and they are pretty rubbish.

Does it really matter though ?

VerveClique · 13/02/2023 22:02

My nephew has a Christmas Eve birthday and the whole family love it!

i have a friend with two December born DCs. They have half-birthdays in the summer… get a small gift, and can choose to have their party then if they want to that year.

jamdonut · 13/02/2023 22:19

My middle child was due 26 December…was actually born 2 January. Apart from the obvious wondering if It Christmas Day was going to be “different” that year, ( we actually spent it very quietly with our eldest son), it made absolutely no difference whatsoever! Can’t really see the problem.

namechangeforthisbleep · 13/02/2023 22:20

You really can't plan it. Chances of you conceiving exactly when you want are very slim so gotta crack at it at every opportunity
