How to increase egg quality

After 4 miscarriages and currently undergoing several tests, I'm trying to better my chances for a healthy pregnancy.

Any suggestions what the problem migth be and what we should investigate - very early loses - blighted ovum, 2 CPs and a loss where the pregnancy was small and no embryo before staring to bleed?

Any recommendations on how to improve egg quality? Have read about It start with an egg, but would help to hear advice from other people who actually went through /tried this.

Thank you so much.

@Ella1211 I'm so sorry for your losses. I followed It Starts With an Egg and I think it was good but of course you can never really know. I attended CRP Epsom who also treat people with recurrent losses. It's not cheap but I think they are good x

Agree I found It Starts with an egg helpful. I implemented the lifestyle changes (removed plastics etc) and took the supplements. My egg quality did improve despite my last collection being at 38/39 yrs old.

lamaze1 · 11/02/2023 23:18

Note: I say egg quality improved because pgs testing results were:

0% embryos normal (37 yrs) - hadn't implemented recommendations from the book

25% normal circa 6 months later

50% normal over a yr later

We were told to take folic acid and co enzyme q10 to improve sperm and egg quality.

Soy isoflavones is used for egg quality. It depends which days you take them and the amount, I suggest looking into it on Google. Good luck!

I had three miscarriages and then read It Starts With The Egg and followed that for about 9 months. I gave up plastics and took all the supplements suggested. I'm now 8 months pregnant at 43 years old and all the scans so far have showed the baby is healthy/normal. (One of the babies I miscarried had Down's syndrome and this can be down to poor egg quality) so it seems like it worked.

Pollywoddles · 11/02/2023 23:36

I had 7 MCs before finally having a healthy baby. Egg quality was an issue due to age. I read that book and I did the following:
600mg of CoQ10
Metformin (I had high testosterone, no PCOS)
Tart cherry extract
High dose Vitamin D and C
Naturelo prenatal vitamins (contain methyl folate)
Swapped all my toiletries for ones with no phthalates, parabens, etc.
Stopped using plastic with food. No plastic bottled water etc.

You can only do so much of what the book recommends, I made changes that made sense to me and were easy to incorporate into my life and I think it made a difference.

I had 5 rounds of IVF/ICSI

Round 1 - 18 eggs - 3 fertilised day 3 - poor quality
round 2 (different stim drugs) - 1 egg fertilised - day 2 transfer very poor quality
Round 3 - 7 eggs - 3 fertilised day 3 - very poor quality

read it starts with the egg, implemented all changes, cut out plastic, took 300mg of ibiquinol q10 (I think that was the dose) high dose of folic acid and I think a good multivitamin.

round 4 - 15 eggs - all 15 fertilised! 8 eggs made it to day 5 blastocysts - all excellent quality

transfer 1 embryo - negative

transfer 2 embryos this time with a daily blood thinning injection - positive.

my twin girls turn 4 in 6 weeks

the blood thinners definitely were a game changer but before I read it starts with the egg my egg quality was dreadful, I could only have dreamed of getting day 5 blastocysts.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this and wish you all the luck in the world. I hope my story is somewhat helpful to you

Newyearnewme1 · 11/02/2023 23:44

Actually as per PP it might have been 600mg of Q10 - it’s quite specific it needs to be the ubiquinol - I took 3 tablets per day and they were probably 200mg each. I got mine from natures best, they were small black gel tablets. I think they cost about £60 per month (but only took them for 4 months)

Ella1211 · 11/02/2023 23:49

Thank you all so much. It really gives me hope and determination to go through with the recommendations and keep the faith up. And hopefully I will have a happy outcome. Best wishes to you all! ❤️

I'm so sorry for your losses. I took ovum supplements for egg quality for around 3 or 4 months when ttc Xx

Akan · 21/02/2024 20:18

What exact quantities and in what combination you guys took it? I am taking it for last 7 months on and off and feeling my egg quality is not improving. :(

LizzeyBenett · 21/02/2024 20:26

High strength Cq10 , no alcohol. But honestly I'd look even closer at improving the sperm quality . Look at Fab and Ell on YouTube they have a video on what they did to conceive after getting quite bad sperm quality results and explain what they took and did I'm convinced it helped me and my partner conceive naturally

Combattingthemoaners · 21/02/2024 20:33

I have PCOS. I found completely cutting out alcohol made the most difference to my egg quality and the length of my cycle. Good luck with everything!

BananaHammock23 · 21/02/2024 20:59

6 months before we started IVF, I cut alcohol and caffeine completely and followed the supplement regime in It Starts With The Egg to the letter. I had weekly acupuncture focussing on fertility, ate a healthy diet and exercised three times a week. Had a successful egg collection and pregnancy after. Can't say that my success was due to any of those things for sure, but I think it made a big difference.
