Bleeding after Mirena removal

Removed my mirena coil on 28th February and I’m still bleeding heavily! The fist 4 days were light but it’s been heavy since then. I’m getting fed up now and just want to get on with TTC.

How long did you bleed for after coil removal?

I had horrendous bleeding for about 10 days, massive golf ball size clots due to the withdrawal of hormone. Then it faded away gradually, I wouldn't expect it will last much longer for you, fingers crossed anyway

Fingers crossed it stops soon! It’s day 11 of bleeding today. I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t so heavy!

I had mine out in October, bled for a couple of days then had a full heavy period two weeks later for about ten days, awful cramps etc. Had another period 5 weeks later same again horrendous cramps and really heavy. That was November and the last 2 periods have been regular (30 days) and normal periods.
I had mine in for 15 years (2 different coils) so the heaviness is down to the lining coming away after all those years of not shedding.
It’s tough but it does settle.
I want to point out as well that I wasn’t TTC until last month so you may very well conceive after your first period as you can get pg straight away

yes I think it’s definitely everything shedding, as I’m getting huge clots now. I only had spotting for 3 days every month when the coil was in place. I think I’ll give it another week and if it’s not stopped, make a doctors appointment.

I use a moon cup, so measuring blood loss, I’ve lost 116ml today 😱

@Popsicales i just remember thinking I felt like I was 15 again and just starting my heavy periods 🙈 never really had any spotting when I had the coil in so it was a big shock 😂 the pains were similar to early labour pains too not fun! Hope it settles for you soon x

I had mine out on 10th jan. Had spotting for a day. Then had a 2 day withdrawal bleed on 14th-15th which had some small clots. I’ve had nothing since then. I think I’ll be due AF Thursday but not sure as never had anything with the mirena.

I had read that the withdrawal bleed can be really bad for some women as can the first AF, so I’m hoping we have caught this cycle so I don’t have to worry about that.

Make sure you are taking in plenty of iron as if it’s really heavy you can become anaemic. Definitely see a dr if it doesn’t stop soon.

Popsicales · 11/02/2023 09:57

Thank you. I’m taking the seven seas vitamins and they have iron in. Woke up today and still
filling a menstrual cup every 3 hours and clotting!

This would be when my period was due so I’m hoping it will stop by Wednesday at the latest🤞

If it’s still like that on Monday I’d suggest you call the GP

Winemygoodenemy · 11/02/2023 10:04

When mine was removed was told I wouldn’t really bleed. First few days was light. Then I had the heaviest bled I ever had. Flooding for 24 hrs and massive clots. Then it went to a heavy bled for a few days.

next period lasted 3 weeks and was heavy. Settled down next period

Popsicales · 11/02/2023 10:33

I hope I conceive before another period so I don’t have anymore bleeding like this!!

Update in case anyone comes across this in the future - still bleeding and losing massive clots! Been to the GP today and she did a full exam. Temperature was up a bit so given some strong antibiotics and swabs. Having an urgent scan within 2 weeks. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious and clears up soon.

Aww sorry to hear this. You are at risk of infection with any intervention so hopefully anti biotics will clear it up quickly. Hope you’re ok look after yourself xx
