Hello,

this is my first thread so sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place. also sorry this is really long and big thanks if you take time to read it.

My husband and I are not actively ttc. We have children already and are in our early 40s.
i have a mirena coil that I’ve had nearly 8 years (yes I know that’s ridiculous!) meant to get removed over lockdown then couldn’t get an appointment at all for ages and then if I’m being totally honest I just kind of forgot about it with life kind of taking over.
we had been using condoms as an extra barrier the past few years anyway but recently have had three occasions where we’ve skipped the condoms and figured I still have the coil and haven’t had a period at all since June 2014 so figured it must still be working.
this was around 2 weeks ago.
I can be a paranoid person anyway so bought some pregnancy tests to put my mind at ease. Took one at the weekend and it was definitely negative. I had one left so did it this morning on a whim, not even sure why. Just sort of found myself reaching for the test when I went to the loo.
Now for context it came up very, very slowly and weirdly! It was super blurry, came up almost like a “tear along dotted line” kind of line at the test line and the control line was clear with a single bright dot of pink at the bottom. The pink that usually flows along the text window was really streaky and barely passed the test line.
That was up until around the 3 minute mark. Over the following 5 minutes it kind of evened out and now shows a faint test line along with a well developed control line.
these were cheap tests off Amazon though I don’t know if that’s relevant?
should I be taking this as a positive or do you think it’s more likely an evap line and a faulty test? (Photos are all of the same test, just as it developed with the last one being around 10 minutes after I took it and it’s still looking like that now half an hour later)

Thanks to anyone that’s read this far and for any insight. Totally confused here.

@Inkypot hi OP, what a lot going on! I can definitely see what you're seeing, but I think by the way you've described things (I.e how the line appeared) I'd say the only way you're going to know for sure is by taking another test, given there isn't much background to go off of.

Inkypot · 07/02/2023 09:43

Thank you for replying and for reading!
I think you're probably right. Going to try and hold off another day or two rather than rush and do another one too quick.

Hmmm the test does look faulty, but given how strong the line is I think doing a proper pink dye test today will give you a clear answer.

Good luck

Inkypot · 07/02/2023 09:49

Thank you. I'll see if I can pick up another test later today or tomorrow and go from there.

With the information you've given, I'd put money on you not being pregnant.

Inkypot · 07/02/2023 09:52

I'll let you know when I've done another test

There's clearly two lines there but I'm not sure I would trust that test.
I hope you get the result you want. Either way I think you need to see your GP asap about your coil, either to get it replaced or to get advice on a pregnancy with coil in situ

Inkypot · 07/02/2023 10:05

Thank you. Funny you should say that. I've just called my doctor just now, it's prompted me to realise I need to get the mirena out either way.
I don't even know which result we want. Spoke with my husband who had the same reaction as me (unsure if test is accurate but not panicked)
We're happy with our family as we are but we did talk about how we'd feel if we are pregnant and agreed we would be fine and a baby is always a blessing in our eyes.

I wouldn’t trust it, definitely check. Don’t book to remove the coil until you know for sure. There’s mixed views on whether or not mirena should be removed during pregnancy. Removing it can trigger a miscarriage

OhBitchPeas · 07/02/2023 14:58

I'd say it is unlikely, given the info.

Those tests are a bit hit and miss.

well done for being able to not test for a day or two. I'd be hot footing it to the nearest chemist and buying 12 of them!

timetosave · 09/02/2023 19:33

@Inkypot did you test again OP?

Inkypot · 21/02/2023 15:57

I meant to reply to this earlier, I've just been getting more confused.
So I've been feeling bloated and lightheaded, as well as feeling really sick a few times each day/night. Took a First Response Early Results test on Friday last week and I think there's an incredibly faint second line (doesn't show very well on camera) but then tested today to see if the line had darkened at all. Only had a cheap Aydmed test left and it's come up negative 🤷‍♀️
So I'm totally confused to be honest.
Does this mean I've had two false positives? Missed miscarriage? Pregnant? I realise nobody can say for sure, I'm just not sure at this point.

Thank you for all your replies and for taking time to read my post.

Helps if I include the pic of the First Response one with the super faint line!
