Hi everyone, I am 38 years old, had 1 pregnancy which ended in a MMC in December 22, ERPC Dec 5th, period back 6th Jan and now 2nd period is 2 days late, BFN so defo not pregnant.

I have been suffering terrible with anxiety, stress and depression and feeling so old at 38 and thinking I was naive to believe I would be ok at 38 with no issues.

So I have now booked myself and my husband in for a fertility assessment, checking AMH, Follicle, ultrasound etc for me and semen analysis for him. I know I've only tried one month so my question is do you think I'm over reacting at this stage? Or do you think it's wise given my 'advanced maternal age'

My rationale is if there's a problem I'd be better knowing now than finding out 6 months down the line

My next question is what criteria does anyone know it is before they recommend IVF? Or will they auto recommend it because of my age ?

Tests are 15th Feb

Thanks

Hi there, sorry you feel this way I am mid thirties and in second year of trying. Regular periods and ovulation. After the first year they referred me for all blood tests, semen analysis and a hycosy. After this I get to have an appointment to recap it all and decide the next steps. I also had a pelvic scan which showed an endometrioma which I believe is the worst kind of cyst in terms of affecting fertility. The past two years of trying have been absolutely awful and in answer to your question i wish i done some tests sooner for peace of mind at the very least. The anxiety was unbearable most of the time as all this came after miscarriage. The most i would advise people to try for before testing is 6 months any age if it is gonna happen it will. Whilst you keep trying there is no harm in getting the basic checks I have had I mentioned above. Good luck.
