Hello! Hope someone can help as I find all this so confusing. I am on cycle day 13 and have taken my first ovulation test. Very late in my cycle I know but it's been a stressful month and I will really start doing this properly now.
Anyway....the glow app predicts that I am due to ovulate this Thursday and that today is a highly fertile day for me, with tomorrow being my most fertile day. I've just taken my first ovulation test and there is a blank circle. Should I not bother DTD at all today and just test again tomorrow? Or is the circle just likely to be blank because it's my first test? My cycle is pretty regular give or take a couple of days here and there. Thanks!

I should mention that my DH has a very low sex drive and mine is also low-ish and the last time we DTD was over 2 weeks ago so I wonder if we should try today even if it's not a peak fertility day just to get rid of old sperm (sorry if tmi!) Before trying on a more fertile day

It was my first time using OPKs this month. I've been tracking a few cycles on Flo and that predicted O on CD15 but I didn't get a smiley face til CD18. I used cheapies as well which showed line getting gradually darker in 2 days leading up to smiley face on clearblue.

Hope that helps!

Skyl · 06/02/2023 11:30

Tha is dindot! Ok I think it's best to hold off trying then until I get at Least a flashing smiley

The test isn't going to know it's your first test. If you're using it correctly it will be an accurate result regardless of how many times you've done it.

If you're not planning on dtd much for each cycle then i'd hold off and measure tomorrow or the next day to see if you get a smiley face.

From what I understand if it’s the first time using a new reader, or the first time reusing the reader after having a static smiley the last cycle, you always get a blank circle xx

Skyl · 06/02/2023 11:59

Thank you! Yes, need to minimise the amount of times we need to DTD so I worry that if we DTD today then DH will be too tired to try tomorrow even if we do get a static smiley tomorrow

Ok I have an update and need help from you lovely ladies!
I literally just got my first solid smiley. We already DTD last night and weren't planning to DTD again until tomorrow night (so every other day which I heard was better than daily as good to let sperm replenish or whatever).

What do you ladies think? Should we DTD again even though we did it yesterday? If I wait until tomorrow evening then do I risk missing the highest fertile window?

Info below:

Monday - blank circle but DTD anyway
Tuesday - flashing smiley morning and evening
Wednesday - flashing smiley morning and evening and DTD
Thursday - flashing smiley morning and solid smiley evening (just now)

It’s 12-36 hours after positive to ovulate then the egg needs to be fertilised within 12-24 hours of ovulation. So you have 24-60 hours from positive. There’s no way to know if you’re on the shorter or longer end. Most people ovulate day after positive. If I had to choose I would go with tonight personally just in case

I’m 12 weeks pregnant now. We dtd 4 days before ovulation, 2 days before and the day before. We missed ovulation day as was busy and we stopped trying after. Basically if you go tonight you would have done the same days as we did. Everyone is different but I know dtd as many days as possible in the 5 days up to and including ovulation are the best days and the closer the more chance. Every day will be fine if your partner has healthy sperm but it was too much for us and it was fine

ChloeN · 09/02/2023 22:00

@Skyl I mean with you saying you want to minimise the amount of dtd I would just miss tonight and do tomorrow, I think every other day is enough! We’ve only ever had success doing it less, everyday didn’t seem to work for us xx

Skyl · 09/02/2023 22:13

@allgoodthings84 - thank you! Just the response I needed. I didn't realise daily was fine, and every other day was only recommended if there were issues with sperm quality potentially. Will try now.

@ChloeN - just saw your reply thank you. I'm going to try tonight because for some reason I'm quite motivated this month but good to know every other day is also ok given we just don't have the energy to DTD much normally

@Skyl always worth a try🙈 we ended up putting too much pressure on everyday for like 10 days in a row it was just too much! Xx

allgoodthings84 · 10/02/2023 14:05

@ChloeN 10 days in a row 😮

ChloeN · 10/02/2023 17:39

@allgoodthings84 it was not a fun time lol 🤣🤣

Skyl · 10/02/2023 18:46

LOL that sounds exhausting!

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 10/02/2023 19:02

@ChloeN most we did was 3 days in a row but we only done that the one cycle. 2 days in a row is enough for us. Every other day from day 8 then day before and day of ovulation or day before ovulation and 2 days before. I would have been very sore with 10 days, my partner is rather errmmm large
