Hi all!
Bot DH and I have a DS each, from previous relationships, and we would love our last baby (if lucky enough to conceive) to be a DD!
Anything anyone of you know to help sway in this favour? I read about olive leaf extract? Anyone actually tried this and it works?? Xxx

This can't be real, surely?
OP there is nothing you can do to sway this. In fact it's the soerm that determines sex.

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 05/02/2023 15:06

There is not "method" that will work to get you either sex, apart from IVF. People have swayed towards sons for thousands of years and during that time no-one has managed to find a scientific natural method to achieve it. Should someone ever manage to find an actual natural method that worked they'd be a rich man/woman. There will be thousands of "methods" online and by word of mouth that people will say "works". But the fact is that the people it "worked" for are just the ones eagerly coming forward to say so. While the approximately 50 % of people it didn't "work" for don't bother to comment.

Your odds will be approximately 50/50, unless there's a rare medical disorder at play. So unless you want a baby, regardless of sex, it's not a good idea to have one.

Twoinapod · 05/02/2023 15:50

There is nothing you can do. It’s down to which sperm gets there first. If you don’t want a baby of either sex it would be better not to have one then to have another boy and resent it for its entire life

Floralsandsmiles · 05/02/2023 15:52

Thank you both for your replies, we just want to increase our chances any chance we can. Xx

I don't think I mentioned about not wanting a boy, just that we wanted to increase our chances of a girl and was asking for advice. Therefore don't think it warrants jumping to such conclusions, but accept that not everyone has the same viewpoints. Xx

Unfortunately it's left in the lap of the gods. Standing on your head during sex will not increase the chance of conceiving a girl.

And would be quite tricky 🤣

Haha this made me laugh somewhat! Thank you! Xxx

I think you need to be totally happy you'd conceive a boy before you even try, kids pick up on these things - I wouldn't even try if I wanted a particular gender desperately as you say

Boneweary · 05/02/2023 17:12

I think that having sex around three days before ovulation is supposed to swing things in favour of a girl. It’s tricky though, as even women with regular periods don’t ovulate on the same day every month!

I have a girl preference - am 16 weeks pregnant - and am not finding out the sex for this reason. I don’t want to feel deflated and ‘oh’ if it’s a boy, whereas I know when I’m handed a baby I just won’t mind Smile

Ihavekids · 05/02/2023 17:14

You can have ivf in a country that allows sex selection. Thailand for example. Absolutely no other way, not even a nudge.

Roseandrose20 · 05/02/2023 17:16

We had a DS first and would have liked a girl second although would have been very happy with two boys. Second time I tried the following - taking magnesium and drinking cranberry juice, my DH took olive leaf extract and we only had sex before ovulation and I had a girl.

Thank you for your reply, @Roseandrose20 . I didn't know about magnesium, will read on that 😊 xxx

X sperm are more durable and survive longer so you could try to have sex a few days before ovulation with the hope that lots of y sperm die off increasing the odds of x sperm - although of course there are lots you can’t control so no guarantees. So easy to not predict when ovulation will be etc.

There's no way to sway it. Shettle (who first suggested all the x sperm are slower, have sex before ovulation to have a girl stuff) was wrong it turns out - he got them the wrong way round in some observations - and all modern research has found no measurable difference. In fact, a couple of studies suggested that there may be a very slightly higher chance of a girl if conceiving close to ovulation, so the exact opposite of the myth.

It's always around 50/50 with some interesting data around more boys being conceived during periods of war for obvious evolutionary reasons but they still don't know why.

SquashPenguin · 05/02/2023 18:37

Seeing as sperm controls whether it is a boy or girl, there is literally nothing you can do to sway the outcome. Go to Cyprus for IVF where gender selection is legal if you are that desperate.

Hi, can you tell me more about where you found out about taking magnesium and cranberry juice please? Also where did you get olive leaf from for your hubby? Thanks ☺️

I read the Fertility Awareness Method book by Toni Weschler.... She has a theory but it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as it literally is just a theory.

Toni Weschler suggests that timing intercourse around ovulation may influence a baby’s sex: for a girl, have sex 2–4 days before ovulation; for a boy, have sex as close to ovulation as possible. It’s based on the idea that “girl” (X) sperm survive longer but swim slower, while “boy” (Y) sperm are faster but shorter-lived.

My friend was desperately 'trying for a girl' - she was TTC for 4 years, when she finally relaxed and gave up with the idea, she conceived right away and conceived a boy. She recommended the book The Babydust Method: A Guide to Conceiving a Girl or a Boy Kathryn Taylor.
