Faint line but bleeding

Hi, I'm wondering has anyone had any similar experience to what I'm having. I had what I thought was the beginning of my period 3 days ago at around 12dpo, I'd tested negative on ICs before and up to this time. However yesterday I realised it wasn't getting heavier like it normally does andI'm normally quite heavy from day 2. I took a test yesterday afternoon on an IC and got a faint positive, but the heavy bleeding then started a few hours later. Clearblue digi was negative before the bleeding began. I'm experiencing what feels like a period but I still feel pregnancy symptoms like headache, sore breast and exhaustion, so I took another IC just now and it's still a faint positive. I know it's often the case that if it's a pregnancy it will take time for hcg to disappear, but I just feel like I still am and it's making me so confused.
Do you think I'm having a chemical pregnancy and just need to ride it out, or should I go to my GP? Thanks in advance

There is little the GP could do I’m afraid so, unless the bleeding turns heavier than your usual period or becomes foul smelling, there isn’t much point in contacting them. Sorry op Flowers

Hi lovely. So sorry to hear you're experiencing this. This does sound like a chemical pregnancy to me personally. It also depends on what test you're using as first response should be fairly dark in colour at 12DPO as they're so sensitive. A clear blue at this point could still be negative as they're not as sensitive. Do you have a picture of your test? As you can bleed sometimes during pregnancy. Meaning this might not be chemical, you're just early.
My last cycle I had a chemical pregnancy. I had my first faint positive around 7DPO which got slightly darker & then also at around 11DPO , 12DPO began to be faint again. I then came on my " period " early. Xx

Thank you both for being so nice. I couldn't manage to get a FRER so it was just ICs where I was getting the line. I've attached a pic here. The first is from yesterday and the second from today. I know they're both very faint but they're definitely pink and don't appear to be evaps. I'm just assuming it's a chemical now, will just have to keep trying I suppose. I'll maybe test again once the bleeding stops.

Yes definitely positive. With these strip tests I usually see a faint line like yours from 10DPO so I would say you're not far off that. Could have ovulated late? I suppose all you can do it test every morning & see if your line gets darker. Best of luck to you lovely xx

I got a positive OPK on cd13 so that's a bit later than normal for me. I usually have about a 25 day cycle if I'm lucky. If you don't mind me asking, when you say you've had positives from 10dpo previously, have you gone on to have stronger positives or do you find ICs can be quite deceptive? I've been ttc for 8 months and never had the slightest positive before

So I usually get a very faint positive on the strip tests at 10DPO, then each morning I would test... sometimes the tests for me have looked the same over 2/3 days but they do eventually get darker.
Hopefully that helps. Xx

Any updates?

I tested positive at 14dpo and started bleeding lightly for about a week which then turned to heavy bleeding for another week. Like other user said gp won't do much and it's essentially pointless contacting them if it's the first time your experiencing this . Gp wont take notice until its happened a few times. As you said you'll just have to ride it out and 🤞hope for the best

It is possible to have what looks like a period and be pregnant. Happened to me with my second. I’d expect the line to be stronger than that if you’re 15dpo though so it could be chemical or you could have ovulated late.

How heavy was your bleeding? I bled heavy all day yesterday and then today the bleeding is completely gone and I have faint positive tests.. I’d be 14dpo roughly today

Eatentoomanyroses · 09/03/2023 07:47

@Jess1997 enough to look like a period. It does happen to some women but I did have a strong line on pregnancy tests as well

curliegirlie · 09/03/2023 08:56

I had a MC a bit like that last year (although never knew how far gone I was as it was a surprise and I wasn't tracking). I had fairly decent lines on FRERs, but the cheapies were always really faint. I started bleeding for 2 or so days 5 days after I first got my BFP. An EPU visit the following week showed low HCG and no signs of pregnancy on a scan, but the test lines still took 3 weeks to completely vanish (2 weeks from when my levels were 27).

But equally at around that time I read of lots of people who had early bleeds and continued to have a healthy pregnancy.

covfefe18 · 09/03/2023 14:56

Hi all, so it was definitely a very early miscarriage, bleeding went on for about 5 more days and the cramps were v painful. Unfortunately it's just one of these cruel things many of us have to deal with.

1st time posting here.. I am so sorry to hear your sad news 😓
I have had 2 faint positives now and have been heavily bleeding since this morning. literally like I am weeing blood when I go to the loo. It’s easing off now- less than 24 hours since it started.
I’ve been to the Drs this afternoon for bloods, so hoping for positive news tomorrow when I get the blood result. I already have a feeling it’ll be sad news.
My sister bled heavily very early with her second, turned out to be a twin that she unfortunately miscarried (they found a second sack at her 12 week ultrasound).
