Confused about ovulation

Hi all!

I'm at the end of cycle 4 of ttc and quite confused about ovulation. I have a 29 day cycle and been tracking my ovulation with tests - for the past 3 months my surge has been at about CD12-13. However I would not get much CM on those days. I would however then end up getting ewcm on around CD19-20. My ovulation tests on those days are negative. On two of the cycles I took that as a sign of pregnancy because alongside ewcm I would also get very sore boobs, back pain and at one point burning sensation in the nipples that would come and go very suddenly throughout the days and that I def never experienced before. It would then all go away by about CD 26, so a good 3 days before AF arrives. I guess I'm just confused as to when is it that I'm actually ovulating, am i ovulating at all, and what are these strange symptoms I experienced for a couple of cycles...

Any thoughts or theories welcome!

I'm definitely not going to be much help because ovulation is a big question mark for me, but I didn't just want to read and run!! I haven't been using opks, but I have 2 apps which track my periods and potential ovulation. One app says I ovulated 3 days ago, the other 5 days ago. Both have all the same info for periods and CM etc for the past year at least. With previous pregnancies I've not had a BPF until days after AF was due, suggesting either I just have low amounts at first or I tend to ovulate later in a cycle than I thought.

Are you using apps that track body temperature or just take average cycle length. I'm thinking if it's body temperature that might give answers but just feels like so much to track 😣

There is a second oestrogen peak part way through the luteal phase, which explains the second load of ewcm. I get ewcm twice each month. But I guess it's unusual to get ewcm with the second (lower) peak but not the first (higher) one.
If you want to know for sure, try tracking bbt. It's the only way to be sure you've ovulated.
If your bbt chart is at all weird (such as short luteal phase, or no higher temps) you might want to ask your GP to do hormone blood tests.

PS if you're having sex regularly you can ditch the opks! Just do bbt if you're finding it hard to track more than one thing at once.
Bbt taught me so much about my cycle, I'm so glad I did it.

Ooh that's very helpful thanks! Had no idea about the oestrogen rise . I think I'll start temperature tracking for next cycle. Just wish I got to that conclusion earlier

Another one recommending temperature tracking, it should give you the clarity you need.

No, we just BD every day for the full week, it's too much to try and track as I already have children and they are awesome but the baby brain hasn't gone yet even tho our youngest is 2 next month 🤣
