Hi all, I’m hoping someone can help.
Im 34 years old and am trying for my first baby with my husband. He already has a little girl from a previous marriage. Ive been concerned for a long time there might be something wrong with me fertile wise, but today confused me even more. I did a ClearBlue ovulation test this morning and got a positive result, which my husband and I took as a sign to have sex this evening, but when completed, I had started my period. How can I be getting a positive ovulation when my period has started? I know nothing of conception but I’m thinking there may be something wrong with me. Please help.

Hey, before I answer properly do you know what cycle day you're on? And how long your cycles usually are?

What cycle day were you on @Amylaa88 ? Are your cycles regular? Why are you concerned about your fertility and how long have you been trying?

"Ovulation tests" measure LH in your urine. LH rises just before your body tries to ovulate but also just before a period. So it looks like this time they have captured the rise just pre period.

That’s very helpful thank you I didn’t know that. We tried a few years ago for a year and nothing happened and we decided to try again after we’d got married. We’ve been trying for 6 months now. I know it doesn’t feel like a long time to be trying but as we tried before I’m just wondering whether to get checked.

@Amylaa88 are your cycles all regular eg within a few days in length of each other?

At 1yr trying a GP will refer you for investigating. Might be worth asking for basic day 2 and 21 bloods sooner (to confirm if you are ovulating- MUST be cycle day 2 and 21). Private places also offer a package for approx £600 offering all investigations.
