Christmas birthday?

Giles1008 · 19/01/2023 22:00

Looking to start TTC soon, just taking my vitamins and tracking this month as we are waiting for the exchange of our house.

If correct my apps suggest next months EDD would be Christmas Day, so it would almost certainly be a Christmas week baby give or take a few days.

Anyone got a December birthday or their DC and have strong opinions?

My DD is 30th Dec birthday. She loves it. Always off school, people around to celebrate, there are pros and cons to any date but I wouldn’t let it put me off. We didn’t plan for this date, it took us a few months of trying but it’s never been an issue (apart from a busy week!)

BooksAndHooks · 19/01/2023 22:04

My DS is a Boxing Day baby. We thought we had planned well and actively avoided dates too near Christmas and he was due in January. He had other ideas and made an early appearance on Boxing Day. He actually really likes a Boxing Day birthday.

Taswama · 19/01/2023 22:06

My birthday is a week before Christmas and I started TTC in September twice to deliberately avoid a Christmas baby!

pros - quite early in the school year
cons - joint birthday and Christmas presents
birthday in school holidays so people busy
people doing Christmas stuff so no time / money to celebrate your birthday
No more presents for 12 months.

Laul89 · 19/01/2023 22:16

My birthday is 15th December, I was due on the 22nd! I quite like having a December birthday and if I’m honest I’d rather be December than January.. I feel it’s a depressing month 🤣

The cons are people are always quite busy in the run up to Christmas. It’s an expensive time of year. But the pros are everyone is usually quite happy, I love having the Christmas tree up on my birthday too 🤣
I wouldn’t let it put you off starting to try, especially with it only being your first month!

Enigma85 · 19/01/2023 22:28

Wouldn't a Christmas baby be conceived end of march beginning of April?

Twoinapod · 19/01/2023 22:51

I think your app is wrong, if you conceive next month you won’t have a Christmas baby, that would be March/April conception

BabyMomma2021 · 19/01/2023 23:03

Those dates don't quite add up - I conceived early April and had a late December baby at full term

Can't comment yet on whether it's a great time, it makes for a very busy end of year but always off work / school (when time comes)

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 19/01/2023 23:55

My birthday is the 22nd Dec and my son's is the 31st, I hate it! Always feel stressed about it all, can't enjoy new years eve, I always try and make the birthday more special as I always felt like my birthday was overshadowed by Xmas. Saying that, I wouldn't put off TTC as chances are it's not going to happen straight away.

BeaKind · 20/01/2023 06:11

II’m a Xmas eve baby and I love it. Never had a joint present with Christmas (it’s not a thing). Such a happy time of year and everyone always wants to celebrate.

I wanted to avoid a January birthday for my baby though as thought it was a depressing month, then when the time came we thought ‘should we really be stopping ttc? This might be our month. And it was!). I was due 26th Jan and baby was 2 weeks late!

I know a lot of babies that have been early (one was 8 weeks and I know two that have been nearly 4 weeks early). Due dates are such huge estimates. I wouldn’t put it off now personally.

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2023 07:08

I had lots of joint presents as a child (it's definitely a thing)!

I love having a Christmas birthday.

So sorry! Was replying to a completely different thread ! I've reported

BeaKind · 20/01/2023 07:50

Wow @ShowOfHands when’s your birthday? 33 years and I’ve never had one!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/01/2023 07:54

A baby conceived now, if full term, will be born in October.

Twoinapod · 20/01/2023 07:54

@BeaKind my birthday is in June and I’ve had joint birthday/Christmas presents for big presents. 😂

allgoodthings84 · 20/01/2023 07:58

I was conceived around 9-12th February and was born in very early November. I was 2 weeks early but still would have been in November not December. I think your app is wrong.

SheWoreYellow · 20/01/2023 08:00

If you have sex in four weeks, the due date is 12th nov.

allgoodthings84 · 20/01/2023 08:23

A baby with a due date of Christmas Day would be conceived on 20th March. Not sex on 20th March but conception which is when the egg is fertilised so just after ovulation

PuppaDontPreach · 20/01/2023 09:18

Think your dates might be off.

Anyway, both my kids have Christmassy birthdays.

Pros-
off school
off work
it's a fun time of year anyway
not a bad time to be born in the school year

Cons-
you need to make an effort to carve out the birthday time in the midst of all the other celebrations
Now DS is 18 he wants to spend his birthday out with his friends but we generally go away for Christmas, so there's always a bit of last minute dashing.

Never had an issue with people doing joint presents.

The main thing I think is that it honestly doesn't matter. Hope I can express this without sounding too pious but I had very clear ideas about good and bad times to be born when I started TTC. Two MCs later the idea of worrying about something like that just seemed laughable and my only concern was having a successful pregnancy (which I was lucky enough to do twice). There are pros and cons to every time of year and you can make your child's birthday special whether it's Christmas Day or Midsummer's Day, so don't worry about timing. Good luck with it all.

fairtrauchled · 20/01/2023 09:19

My DC was born 23rd December. They're now in their 30s and have never had a joint birthday/Christmas present.

WaddleAway · 20/01/2023 09:21

DC3 was due on Christmas Day… born 9th Jan!

ifoundthebread · 20/01/2023 09:24

My sister is an early december child and she loves it, she also loves Christmas. So getting her a christmas themed gift for her birthday is a win win.

allgoodthings84 · 20/01/2023 09:24

@PuppaDontPreach is right, after 2 early miscarriages/CPs I’m not bothered when mine is due. It happens to be August, the month I didn’t really want before but turns out I don’t care I just want this baby to stick and be healthy

Campolini · 20/01/2023 09:27

My lo is Christmas day birthday, never had a joint
Present. They love it :-) it's madness but good fun
