Hook effect or just negative?

Hey, I've had some symptoms that made me think I should test. I've been really warm all the time (which isn't like me, I'm usually always cold), I've had a much higher libido than I usually do and my boobs are bigger and more veiny. My period are a bit irregular but at most I would be about 6 or 7 weeks pregnant if I am pregnant. I've just taken a test which was negative. I didn't think anymore into and just carried on with my morning. Then I've just remembered reading about the hook effect on here before but I don't know much about it so tried to had a quick Google. Just wondering if at 6/7 week pregnant there would be enough hcg in my system to cause the hook effect to make my test completely negative or would they still be positive but lighter? Thanks in advance for any help 😊

Even with hook effect there would still be enough hcg for the test to be obviously positive I'm afraid !

Thought that might be the case. Thank you for replying

What brand test did you use? X

Bells3032 · 17/01/2023 13:23

I was 6 weeks with twins and still got a dye stealer. It's unlikely but If worried just do another test and dilute

Emae26 · 17/01/2023 13:36

@yorkshirepudsx it was just a home bargains cheepy x

@Bells3032 seem like it will be unlikely then. will do, thank you x

I'm only asking, as with my current pregnancy, I tested negative on some cheap ones, but positive on first response, clear blue, boots own and Morrisons own, I'd wait a few days and then test again but try a diff brand! Xx

@yorkshirepudsx oh okay, Will wait a few more days and get a first response. Thanks for letting me know xx

These were my tests at 7+2. Top one was FMU and bottom was FMU diluted with 50% water. So the hook effect is a thing as diluted test was stronger but it was still a positive at 7+2. I hope this helps OP xxx

Hook effect or just negative?

@positivethoughts1 Thanks, that's really helpful. I thought it would be the case that it would be positive but fainter if I was pregnant, just like yours were. Think I will get a different brand like @yorkshirepudsx suggested just to make sure xxx
