Is it that common to get pregnant at first try?

It's my fertile period and DH and I just decided to try this morning. There is a part of me that is still unsure (the last time I properly tried, I got the morning after as I was so unsure!)

There is a part of me that is just telling myself - leave it; if it happens, it happens. Is it common to get pregnant from first try?

Bearing in mind DH and I have not used artificial contraception for 8 years, only the withdrawal method and we have never gotten pregnant. Have taken the morning after but only 5 times over 8 years...

I did first month of trying but that ended in miscarriage and I haven't been able to get pregnant since.

Roselilly36 · 13/01/2023 18:44

I fell pregnant with both of my DS, the first month of trying, 29 & 30 at the time.

SallyWD · 13/01/2023 18:47

I did once. With the second it took over 6 months.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/01/2023 18:52

Twice for me.... 100% success rate, at 37 and 40.

mangomama91 · 13/01/2023 18:53

Three pregnancies, all on first month of trying.
However, we were both in our early 20s.
Have used withdrawal method since and in between and haven't fallen pregnant. (Not saying that's a good method of contraception but just saying to the post that mentioned about the fact you've been using that method and haven't got pregnant so might need to check fertility)

Both my kids were the result of one-off unprotected sex.
Neither kid was planned though. I was mid to late 30s for them both.
Also happened a third time but wasn't to term.

MaryJean87 · 13/01/2023 18:57

I've got 4 kids and it happened with the eldest and youngest. The two middle kids took several months.

I did...twice

Yes same. And had used withdrawal method for 5 years before that (and 2 in between) with no pregnancies

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/01/2023 19:00

I did in my mid 30s.

curliegirlie · 13/01/2023 19:21

Wow this makes me jealous! DD1 took 16 months (10 cycles), DD2 took 12 months and I'm just in cycle 12 TTC DC3 following a surprise and early MC after a pill mishap last March. I doubt there will be a DC3 as we've given ourselves a year, which is nearly up...

faithfulborderbinliner · 13/01/2023 19:38

We relied on the withdrawal method (plus general cycle awareness) for 12 years without me ever getting pregnant, before getting lucky on our first try. I was 34 at this point and was expecting to discover one of us had fertility problems as I assumed surely I would have got pregnant accidentally at some point otherwise. I have always had predictable cycles and clear ovulation symptoms so I felt confident we had the timing about right on our first cycle trying, but was nonetheless still amazed to get pregnant first time.

casualreader2022 · 13/01/2023 19:40

Over 30.
Conceived first time.
But multiple encounters over the fertile window.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 13/01/2023 19:42

I did three times. Am aware how lucky I am/this is!

ZenNudist · 13/01/2023 19:43

Was pregnant after one period with ds1 and no period with ds2. Over 30.

OverTheRubicon · 13/01/2023 19:48

Not totally rare, but much less common than people say. But for people who weren't really in a good place to get pregnant, one way or another "we'd been careless for months/multiple times" sounds much worse than "it was the one time, what a crazy fluke!!!"...

thirdtimemummy101 · 13/01/2023 19:49

Yes! I got pregnant with only one try- three times! Currently 7 weeks with third.

Goingforplatinum · 13/01/2023 19:50

Partner and I started trying. First time unprotected sex got pregnant, ended in a miscarriage, had a period, had unprotected sex again once, got pregnant, ended in miscarriage, had a period tried again and got pregnant, ended with DD now 2.

Gloschick · 13/01/2023 19:52

Both of mine were conceived first month of trying (late 20s). Years of withdrawal either side of kids. I know MN is horrified by withdrawal, but for us it worked perfectly. DH eventually got the snip when we decided we were definitely done with having kids. I don't think you can infer fertility or lack of based on 8y of withdrawal without pregnancy.

amispeakingintongues · 13/01/2023 19:52

Yep first try here

Kam610 · 13/01/2023 19:59

My son was conceived during our first month of trying. We dtd every 2 days leading up to ovulation.
My daughter was a surprise, we weren't actively trying but weren't preventing either as we did want a 2nd child.

baxtersm · 13/01/2023 19:59

Got pregnant first time every time I've tried.. four babies and one miscarriage. Never when deciding to try for a baby have I even had one period to disappoint me, it's always been straight away pregnant! I do realise how lucky I am though.

needthiswilderness · 13/01/2023 20:00

Yep, I've conceived three pregnancies first month trying - all in my thirties. Doctor says I'm hyper fertile and it's not uncommon!

Justhereforaibu1 · 13/01/2023 20:04

Including 3 miscarriages 4 times out of 5 first time, late 30s.

Montague22 · 13/01/2023 20:06

Yeah 3 times
No miscarriages

Montague22 · 13/01/2023 20:08

@Gloschick I think withdrawal works too, I’d never use it casually obviously and I guess it might not work for everyone…
