DH Semen Analysis Improvements

Afternoon,

First time poster looking for some thoughts on my DH recent semen analysis

Been TTC for just over a year (14 months) following losing our twins (still born) 3 years ago. My results are all fine but DH had a poor semen result back 4 months ago but just this week had some encouraging gains to key areas

Test 1

Total count - 15m
Concentration - 4.20
Motility - 37%
Morphology - n/a

Test 2

Total count - 65m
Concentration - 13.6
Motility - 38%
Morphology - 6%

I'm pleased with his results and just wanted to ask if anyone had any thoughts on how to improve these further? DH takes vitamin C and a few other supplements that the fertility clinic recommend and has taken up running

DH was frustrated with his motility being just 2% under normal range and concentration being just under the normal range of 15

We are still confident of conceiving naturally with his numbers but should certainly be enough for IVF if needed

@edinburghttc hi OP I can’t offer much help except to say that those numbers definitely look good.
I wanted to ask what supplements your partner has been taking?
my OH has his semen analysis in feb and I wonder how he could improve what he has (Incase it’s bad news lol)

edinburghttc · 10/01/2023 15:46

He's been taking high dose vitamin C and Coq10 as recommended by clinic. He also takes Macca which he takes following his own research

DH is going to give up alchohol (he already cut back) as he's read that zero intake can benefit further

@edinburghttc may I ask what strengths?
I’ve read a lot about maca root, I was thinking of taking it myself I’ve heard good things 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I think you should have no issues conceiving with those figures i work in a drs surgery and I’ve seen people conceive with less, good luck ❤️

edinburghttc · 10/01/2023 16:18

1000mg vitamin c - 2 times per day
3 x coq10 per day
3 x Macca (black Macca)

Any particular strength of coq10, I heard 600mg is good @edinburghttc

edinburghttc · 10/01/2023 16:59

I believe they are 500/600

@edinburghttc 100% plenty of sperm for either natural conception or IVF. We conceived naturally with less total count, although morphology and motility a bit higher. I think sperm is so changeable and he could start taking another supplement and it may make zero difference at all. Sounds like you're on the right track and hope you get your longed for baby after your tragic loss. My OH took Proxeed on the recommendation of our clinic but I don't know how that combines with what your spouse is already taking. Best of luck x

edinburghttc · 11/01/2023 08:36

Did the proxeed have an impact on the motility / morphology? What levels was your DH at for those

I’m so very sorry that you lost your twins. Just to give you some hope.. My husband had a far far worse semen analysis back in 2014 and we were told we’d need ICSI. I can’t remember the exact details but I think it was somewhere around the 2 million mark. Anyway, scoot forward to now and I’m currently feeding our 4th child, all naturally conceived so it is possible. I remember following the instructions of “100 days to healthy sperm” by Zita West who gives a list of supplements which my husband started taking. Your DHs results look fab, best of luck!!

edinburghttc · 11/01/2023 09:16

Is there a Zita West book?

OP posts:
Starcircle · 11/01/2023 09:29

Yes although I’ve looked up the list. He took:

Vitamins b12, c and d
zinc
selenium
l-arginine
folic acid.

Sorry I can’t remember the quantities but I think it was fairly standard amounts. Zita West has a few books I think!

FlyOnTheWall89 · 11/01/2023 14:34

@Starcircle really useful to read this!

@edinburghttc yes morphology went from 0% to 9%, motility was already very good ... above 60 % and didn't change with the supplement. His total count was 45 million I think and these were taken 2 months prior to conception.... we don't have one from the month of, so may well have improved further, but just happy we finally got pregnant. You'll get there, his numbers now look fab. Keeping everything crossed for you! X

Thanks 👍

I think increased sex can assist with improved semen results
