Could someone please help me? I'm very down and upset, feel like my body is tricking me and am very confused.

My periods are usually extremely regular, always have been. I've always been lucky and don't get many period symptoms/side effects at all, it's always on time, light, minor cramping and lasts about 4-5 days max.

We're TTC and the past 2 weeks I've experienced these symptoms, which isn't usual for me, at all:

  • Nausea
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Fatigue
  • Heartburn
  • Headaches
  • Vivid dreams
  • Runny nose
  • VERY emotional (I've been crying at things that aren't even a little bit sad, I just get a wave of sadness over me randomly, and I usually rarely cry at all!)
  • Painful boobs since about 2 days ago, but mainly around the nipples whereas usually, it's all of it that when I'm on my period.

My app (Flo) says my period should've started 4-5 days ago, but for the past 4-5 days it's said "Period may start today" and then today it says "1 day late". I tested this morning, negative. I was convinced I was pregnant, I have never been this late, never had these symptoms. Still no period, not even a hint. My CM is thick and milky and there's a lot of it. I think I must be around 16dpo, we had sex every single day (sometimes twice) in the lead up, ovulation and after, to cover all bases.

My questions are these:

  • Could I be pregnant but the test hasn't picked up on it yet?
  • Am I about 5 days late now, rather than just the 1 as I'm usually so regular? Or is my app correct in saying that I'm now only 1 day late and it's just utterly random that it was 4-5 days later than usual?
  • Should I try different tests? I'm using ones from a pack I got on Amazon called Mom Med, they're just strips, no plastic casing.

Hello! Sending luck and positivity your way through this TTC phase?
did you track ovulation at all? If you did what day was your surge? If you didn’t could it be that you ovulated later than the average and you are earlier than you believe to be?
i read once there’s no such thing as a late period just late ovulation as a period is usually 2 weeks from ovulation. Or pregnancy of course which we are hoping in your case 🤞🏽 Do you track BBT as this is also a great indicator that you did actually ovulate and where you’re at in your cycle if AF is around the corner or not. I would also recommend a FRER test to anyone, they aren’t the cheapest but definitely very accurate as the miu count is so low! Xx

Thank you for answering! I thought I did track, I used ovulation sticks and they basically say that from the first time you see a dark line, you're likely to ovulate within 24-48 hours. To cover all bases we made sure to dtd before, during and after this, covering about 7 days. I don't know what exact day the surge was.

I don't know what BBT is, I'm rather new to all of this! I'll do some research and see if that can provide any clarity. I'll also see if I can pick up an FRER test and try that tomorrow morning.

We've only started trying recently and I wouldn't be so upset that I wasn't pregnant immediately if my body was doing what it usually does, but as it's being strange and giving me a shit ton of symptoms I never have, I'm doubting and getting annoyed at it! x

So once you see your ‘peak’ which is when the control line is as dark as or darker than the test line ovulation usually happens anywhere from 8-36 hours but everyone is different!

BBT- is basal body temperature and it’s taken first thing in the morning before you’ve got out of bed and with a specific sensitive thermometer. Straight after ovulation your BBT will rise and stay risen until your just before your period then it will drop again, but if pregnant it would stay high! You can buy them on Amazon for around £10 or so!

definitely go with the FRER and keep us updated! 🤞🏽🤞🏽

it always seems the way doesn’t it, I’m usually regular too but since TTC my body is all over the place I have to put it down to the pressure I’m putting on my body and stress 🤷🏼‍♀️ Fingers crossed to us all! Xx

Ahhh right, ok, will monitor more carefully this month then and read the damn leaflet again. I had a look in my chemist for a BBT thermometer and they didn't have any, so I think I'll just order one off Amazon.

I tried a FRER this morning and it came up as negative, but still no period. I have slight colour in my CM so maybe it's on its way, but then some part of me is thinking "maybe you ovulated way later than you realised and it's implantation bleeding" so I want to shut that voice up, but at the same time I'm still having all my weird symptoms - nausea and a banging headache this morning, nausea last night. Ugh! I'm later than I've ever been in my life before, so if AF is coming then I'm going to just be angry at my body for throwing me a curveball for a little while. x
