I don't know if there are any threads already started but I've just officially found out I've got PCOS this morning - I've always known deep down. Please tell me it's not all bad I'm feeling very sorry for myself.
We've been TTC for 6 months - only 3 cycles. I supposedly ovulated on CD36 (now CD43) this cycle. Gynae reckons not preg cos uterus lining would've thickened. (Had a scan this morning)

Any hints/tips on treatment/TTC?
How to deal with symptoms?

How did Posh spice and Jools Oliver manage to fall preg?

---------------------

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

DungunGirl

I am so glad you are feeling more positive today

fruitloop79 · 21/02/2008 21:56

Hi how is everyone today?
I'm having major cycle trouble
I won't go into details again cos I'll probably get lynched but FFS I'm sooo fed up with this PCOS nonsense now. My best friend told me that too much information can be a bad thing sometimes. It's soooo true! Every bloody sign or symptom I get I think ooh, maybe it's this or maybe it's that but it's just my sodding PCOS just being really sh*t.

DungunGirl · 22/02/2008 08:41

Hi everyone

It's friday! Thank God.

Fruitloop - Everything going a bit haywire eh...hopefully it will sort itself out soon. And I totally agree about the too much information is never a good thing theory! I think if I knew less about PCOS, then whenever the nurse/doctor told me something I would at least feel that they were giving me some new usefu information..whereas it is usually information I had read myself last month on the net.

How is everyone today?

I am so tired.....I don't know how I am going to keep up this exercise regime for the next month!! Look at this...

Monday - 20-30 minute jog, leisure cycle in the evening
Tuesday-Thursday - 20 minute cycle, gym in lunch hour
Friday - 20 minute cycle, DAY OFF from the gym!
Saturday - 20-30 minute jog, 1-2 hour cycle
Sunday - 20 minute brisk walk/jog

AND....This is my typical daily intake

Breakfast - banana & glass water 6.30am, then bowl of porridge when I get to work 8.15am

mid-morning - cup of tea ( 1 sweetener & semi milk ) and fruit- apple usually

Lunch - wholemeal bap with chic breast + salad

Mid-afternoon - Pot of low fat yourt OR Alpro-soya yogurt
and cup of tea

Dinner - brown wholegrain rice with stir fried fresh veg & chicken/lean beef
( Half a portion - so side plate size portion )

I am really frustrated that I am so big as my diet is not bad...I don't really eat sweets/chocolate/crisps. I probably indulge in 2 bags of crisps a month - max!

So with all this exercise and low gi/healthy diet I should be a size 12 at least! GRRRRR

What does everyone think? Is there anything glaringly wrong with my diet that I am missing? Do say if so!

I hate this PCOS nonsence...how on earth am I going to manage to lose another half a stone by 19th march? I can't physically do anymore or fit anymore into my limited hours of each day! Not with a 3 year old at home!

Sorry to moan....I seem to be doing that a lot recently..

Moonlit · 22/02/2008 09:25

DungunGirl I am seriously impressed. Don't blame yourself and most definitely don't give up. You are working really hard, and I am sure that's all the consultant will want to see. To tell you the truth, when I was dieting exercising prior to metformin is was a real slog, but now with metformin, diet and exercise it has become a lot easier. The metformin has kick started the weight loss.

But as Atilla has said before, not everyone is suited to metformin and/or clomid. However, I am sure the consultant will help you some how, because that's their job.

Also, the fact you can't loose weight easily is not your fault it's the PCOS. You really are doing brilliantly! Well done

Fruitloop you poor thing. Where is your AF? Has it gone on holiday? Trust me it will arrive, but it just taking it's time. Have you been anywhere recently? Whenever, I go on holiday my AF disappears. I guess you just want it to come so you can get on with TTC

Tigerschick · 22/02/2008 12:37

Hi ladies.
Dungungirl - I can't see how you can do any more. I'd be exhausted and starving if I followed your diet and exercise plan! Like Moonlit says, the consultant will be happy to see that you are doing so much and it can only help. Really hope that you are able to see some benefit from all your hard work - even if it is just that, on the 19th, they decide to give you something to help you lose the last few pounds.

Fruitloop - Sounds like you are going thru it a bit lately. I can totally sympatise with the long cycles thing. If left to its own devices my 'cycle' is completely haywire. If I'm lucky I have 3-4 periods a year, each coming without warning and lasting anything up to 3 weeks. Just hang in there and keep thinking about the ultimate goal. Check the archives on here, they seem to be full of success stories that really help me when I get low.

Moonlit - hope you are OK. What's going on with you today?

I'm trying SO HARD not to symptom spot. I know that, if my period starts next week then I should be happy, because it means that, finally, the Clomid has worked but I'll also be really upset that it worked but I didn't get pg. It's really hard to see the positive side of things - unless it's a positive HPT that is

Moonlit · 22/02/2008 13:11

Hi Tigerschick I am good thanks started potty training my 23 month old DD. It's hard work!

I keep looking at baby websites etc. My DH thinks I am obessed. I probably am . Gosh I will be on my 16th cycle soon. How depressing . But one good thing is that my weight is coming off. I am now 11 stone 12lbs. Still another 2.5 to go!!!!

If you have any Clomid left, I think Fruitloop and I will be fighting you for it . Seriously, my GP says I can have some in 4 months time as i am a good candidate. So lets see!

Dungungirl seriously the more I look at your regimen, the more I admire you. You have inspired me to work harder to. You are a great role model. Unfortunately us PCOS suffers have to stick to these low GI date to alleviate our symptoms. .

Tigerschick · 22/02/2008 15:01

Wow, Moonlit. My DD is also 23mo - her birthday is 13th March, when's yours? - but I'm waiting a while before I start potty training her. I might give it a go during the Easter hols when we can have a couple of weeks without having to go out too much. I just don't think that she is ready yet; she has only once sat on the potty and weed from choice - rather than me scooping her up and plonking her on it mid-stream!
Good luck, hope it goes OK

scorpio1 · 22/02/2008 15:02

ooh hi tigers Wishing you tons of luck!!

Moonlit · 22/02/2008 16:12

That's so funny! Tigerschick my DD birthday is on the 7th of March (and mine is on he 16th, Im going to be 30!). She showed all the signs of being ready, so I thought I would give it a go. She has been sitting on the potty since she was 8 months old. She now has a toilet seat, which she loves! My DH is in the US next week on business, so i thought I would give it a go. It keeps my mind elsewhere, rather than thinking about TTC

fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 16:47

DDG you're amazing! I could never get through the day on what you're eating plus do all that exercise! Are you sure you're eating enough/regularly enough to keep your metabolism in gear? I have to eat at least every hour or I get very grumpy, lethargic and dizzy! I always have fruit nearby. Are you drinking enough fluids? I make sure I've always got one of those litre or 75cl bottles of water that I refill with a tiny bit of sugar free squash. the 75cl ones, I make sure I drink one before breakfast, one before lunch and one before dinner. Sort of fools your tummy a bit into thinking it's full. If I'm still hungry after a nice few large swigs of water then I'll snack on something (usually fruit or oatcakes)

Well, I'm still getting this spotting/pale pinky CM. It can't be AF cos it's just so light it's barely there at all. I'm almost thinking I'm imagining it! It just comes and goes throughout the day. Shall I just give it a few days to see if AF comes properly? Is this spotting normal for PCOS? I don't think I've had it before. Or maybe I just haven't noticed before

OP posts:
Moonlit · 22/02/2008 17:24

Fruitloop - I always get that when AF is over 40 days or so (i.e. it's really late!) Sorry hun, maybe it's not what you want to hear.

fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 17:27

Well, I'm hoping it is AF at last. Do you mean you get this instead of AF? or just before?

OP posts:
Moonlit · 22/02/2008 17:27

Hey Fruitloop - I forgot to ask, did you have a good time at the science museum?

fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 17:28

So, I'm either on CD3 or CD61 , I need Attila!!!

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 17:30

Oh yeah, it was lovely thanks. Loads to do for the kids. My DS was a miserable little you know what though, 2.5 yrs old - very difficult! Even went to Maccy D's for lunch as a treat and he still wasn't happy. I'd forgotton how easy it is to get there, only have to jump on the district line straight there!

OP posts:
Moonlit · 22/02/2008 17:37

Fruitloop - my sister is around for the afternoon (she is a doctor) she says day 1 of AF is the first day you actually bleed. So what you are having is the introduction stages of your AF. It's not day 1 of AF.

Stop stressing out. This is completely normal. If AF is arriving after 60 days, you can't expect it to be normal. Ok lecture over. Sorry hun

You know, the amount of whining that goes on this thread. I bet we all get pregnant in the same month .

I had a dream last night, I was in labour at home, and my sister delivered the baby. Well she did deliver my DD, because the midwife popped out of the room for a second. So we might carry on the tradition with the second....hopefully!

fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 17:44

I love a good whinge I'll wait till AF properly starts then
My last cycle was much longer (88days, don't think I've ever mentioned thathe he) and AF arrived normally although lots of big clots[yuck, TMI fruity!]. I didn't get this annoying introduction stuff. I suppose there's no such thing as a normal AF for us PCOSers

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 17:46

Oh I really fancy fish n chips, not very GI is it now. D'ya reckon I should cheat tonight? My normal cheat day is Sunday. I know for a fact I will cheat on Sunday as well as tonight if I go for it. Maybe I shouldn't

OP posts:
hattyyellow · 22/02/2008 17:55

Can I join please?? Had a chat with my GP earlier in the week and he indicated that there's a good chance I have PCOS. Symptoms kinda add up and think it has been hidden for ages by all the time I was on the pill.

Got pregnant in 2005 which was perhaps prompted by ttcing soon after coming off the pill, before my cycle had had a chance to mess up again..now have beautiful twin girls who are 2.6.

Anyway, they're starting examinations at the doc next month but can't get hospital appts before I get to my "year of trying" in early summer.

Point of my rambly post was that I was searching the archives for PCOS diet stuff thinking I could at least help myself at this stage by trying to eat healthily.

My BMI is in the normal range but have done a whole 10 days of low GI eating and feel so so much better for it, the lack of bloating, the difference I can see already in my skin which tends to break out is amazing and has kept me away from all the sweets and cakes in our office!

So if I can come and hang around and seek advice about low GI stuff and general PCOS stuff that would be great. Have signed up for aerobics at gym as well and plan to start running (well maybe when it's not so totally freezzzzzzzing).

Sorry will stop rambling now!

hattyyellow · 22/02/2008 17:57

fruitloop hello from the waiting room!

fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 18:25

Ha ha, Hi hattyyellow of course you're welcome in here! These girls are truly fabulous, you'll get some great advise

Wow, twins! I'm gonna ask those questions you've been asked a million times, were they natural? are they identical?
I'd love twins! They don't run in my or DPs family though. Never know though if I'm given Clomid!

OP posts:
fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 18:26

Actually, just spoke to DP who says save the fish n chips for Sunday , I can't wait!

OP posts:
hattyyellow · 22/02/2008 18:43

Hey fruitloop, my girls are identical and were conceived first go naturally! Kinda came as a shock therefore not to hit the jackpot first time around this time - we thought we were oh-so-super-fertile !

Twins can be hard work but that old cliche that your love and the joy you get from your children is multiplied, not divided, with each child is so true

The doctor mentioned Metaformin (sp?) as one eventual treatment option but as you say I think these kind of drugs can stimulate twins and twins twice....blimey!

Enjoy the fish and chips

fruitloop79 · 22/02/2008 18:50

WOW, First time too. How did you feel when you saw two babies on the scan? did you have any idea?
